ABOUT THE FILM
“Zuza Homem de Jazz” (Brazil, 2018)
Director: Janaina Dalri
Duration: 91 minutes
Producer: Cinegroup

What is the influence of Jazz on Brazilian music and the influence of Brazilian music on Jazz? The documentary "Zuza Homem de Jazz" draws a parallel between the two universes, featuring the renowned Brazilian musicologist Zuza Homem de Mello as the protagonist. It offers an intimate look at the writer and music journalist and highlights his long connection with Jazz, that dates back to the 1950’s, when Zuza was a student at the Julliard School of Music. The film was also shot in New York, where Zuza meets old friends in the jazz circuit and revisits memorable stories.

All On The Line
When President Obama announced Redistricting U this week, he said the foundation for successful organizing starts with training. And we couldn't agree more.

This fall, the All On The Line team is going to hit the road and visit communities across the country to strengthen the grassroots movement for fair maps with a new training initiative. But this is a big and ambitious program that's going to take a lot of resources to fund -- simply put, grassroots organizing can't happen without our grassroots donors.

As a Redistricting U Founding Member, you'll be the first to hear about training events near your community -- and you'll help make this entire program possible. Donate today to become a Founding Member.

With Redistricting U, we'll be empowering volunteers to be leaders in this fight and arming them with the knowledge, skills, and tools to impact redistricting. And each training will be customized to the state and local level. We'll start with the basics -- like what is the history and landscape of gerrymandering in your state? Is redistricting decided by state legislatures or independent commissions? Then we'll dive into building a state-specific game plan to take action on redistricting.

We know that this training initiative will be a success if we have strong grassroots support -- that's why we've increased our goal to 5,000 Founding Members. To make this happen, we need 56 people to step up and be Founding Members from New York. Can we count on you to help reach our goal?

Whether you've been a part of the movement for hope and change since day one or you've just recently joined the fight for fair maps, your involvement is essential to our collective success. Together, we can empower the next generation of community leaders in the fight to end gerrymandering.

All On The Line

A panel of judges in North Carolina unanimously ruled that more than 40% of the state's General Assembly districts are unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders and that those districts must be redrawn.

This is a huge win in the fight for fair maps. Since the Supreme Court ruled in June that federal courts won't protect voters against partisan gerrymandering, decisions like these must be won on the state level.

Help us build a strong grassroots movement so we can hold map manipulators accountable.

Here's why this court decision matters: Vox explained that North Carolina is so gerrymandered it could "no longer be classified as a full democracy" -- the fact that politicians in this state are finally being held accountable for extreme partisan map manipulation is a big deal.

For the past decade, politicians have drawn North Carolina's districts with surgical precision to unfairly maintain power -- first along racial, then political lines. As the court ruling stated, in drawing the current maps, the General Assembly acted with "partisan intent to create legislative districts that perpetuated a Republican-controlled" assembly.

Manipulated maps have often been drawn behind closed doors, hidden away from the public. We believe transparency is essential to fair maps and the court agreed. This decision emphasizes the importance of transparency by requiring that any new maps drawn by the North Carolina legislature must be drawn in full public view, at public hearings. Because as we've seen in North Carolina, as elsewhere, politicians are able to tip the scales in their favor when maps are drawn in the dark.

All On The Line is going to ask folks from Raleigh to Asheville, from Greensboro to the Triad, and all across the state to participate in this public process in every way possible. This court ruling is an opportunity for North Carolinians to take power back and finally get fair lines through a transparent dialogue with legislators and map drawers. This moment is why we've invested in building grassroots teams in the state.

All On The Line is committed to building a movement that holds politicians accountable in the redistricting process. But it takes support from folks like you to make sure volunteers are armed with the tools and resources they need. Help end gerrymandering by donating to the fight for fair maps.
