I’m not going to sugarcoat it: 2020 will be a challenge. Will you help us meet it by donating now?

It’s the last year before redistricting, which means Republicans are digging in to protect their manipulated maps. Paul Ryan, John Boehner, and even Newt Gingrich have joined the GOP’s gerrymandering team.

On top of that, because of the Supreme Court’s decision in June, fair-map advocates no longer have a path to fighting gerrymandering in federal court. So we’re going to have to go state by state to ensure a fair process.

Not to mention that it’s a huge election year and we’ll have to compete with the presidential race for voters’ attention.

But I have confidence in this team, Sula -- as long as we have your supportWill you pitch in to our $40,000 mid-month goal?

I want you to think about everything we’ve achieved together. We’ve helped elect Democrats to the governor’s office in 10 states. We’ve helped flip eight legislative chambers and made gains in 10 more. And every major Democratic presidential candidate has signed our Fair Districts Pledge. We’ve made the system fairer -- but we have more work to do.

I know that this team can do what we need to do in 2020: Win in our nine target states, support fair redistricting ballot measures, react to whatever the courts throw our way, and keep educating voters about the importance of fair redistricting.

But it’s critical that we have the resources to get all of it done. So I’m asking you as one of our top supporters: Can you donate to help us hit our $40,000 mid-month goal?

Thank you,
Eric H. Holder, Jr.

All On The Line

I wanted to reach out and introduce myself. I'm Olivia, the AOTL Colorado State Director. Redistricting is important to me because there is no electoral structure so powerful, yet so corrupted, that we as individuals have the direct ability to impact.

As a first-generation immigrant, I am profoundly committed to the democratic principles of this country -- it's why I joined the All On The Line team. And I'm proud that we're working to create systemic change and empower people's voices in the process.

If you agree that fair maps are essential to a fair system, join the AOTL Grassroots Advocacy team!

As President Obama said, we have a plan to end map manipulation -- but we need a strong grassroots movement to make it happen. By signing up for the advocacy team, you'll get state-specific action alerts when there are opportunities to get involved in this fight.

We have the opportunity to hold our elected officials accountable in the upcoming redistricting process. I truly believe that together we can make a difference, so I hope you'll join the Advocacy team.

Talk soon!

All On The Line
We know that this year's elections will decide the direction of the next decade, but this quote below really puts things into perspective.
Redistricting power at stake in 2020 legislative elections: Voters will be electing more than 5,000 state lawmakers in 35 states who will play a significant role in crafting or passing new maps for Congress or state House and Senate districts. Voters also will be electing governors in eight states who could enact or veto those maps.
5,000 lawmakers in 35 states! In many cases, the people we elect will have a direct hand in drawing new districts for Congress and state legislatures. The stakes could not be higher.

Sign our Citizen Commitment and pledge to only support candidates who want fair and representative districts.

The next ten years of political progress are at stake. If map manipulators get their way next year, gerrymandering will stall progress on everything from health care to common-sense gun laws. And we won't have a chance to rectify the maps until 2031 -- we must act now.

"If redistricting began today, Republicans would dominate"
-- Daily Kos
We can't put it any more clearly than this headline, Sula. If it were January 2021, Republicans would control redistricting in 15 states and for 37 percent of U.S. House districts, while Democrats would have control in only seven states and for 13 percent of districts.*
Believe it or not, things have improved dramatically since 2017, thanks in no small part to the NDRC and supporters like you. We've already helped Democrats break Republican control over redistricting in five states and gain control in nine!

But we still have a long way to go, and less than 10 months left until the last elections before redistricting. That's why we're going all-out to elect Democrats in key states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and North Carolina, which between them have 106 House districts.
Will you help us get it done, Sula?

* In other states control is mixed, there's an independent redistricting commission, or the state has only one House seat.
