2022 MIDTERM ELECTIONS

Days Remaining: 200

Last Updated: 04.22.2022

The clock is ticking: As of today, there are just 200 days until the midterm elections. So it’s all hands on deck!

We’re putting everything we have into electing state Democrats this November, but state Republicans are gearing up for a tough fight. They’re pouring millions of dollars into the state-level ballot and parading Trump around the country for MAGA rallies to endorse his GOP cronies.

It’s all a part of their scheme to fill state legislatures with Trumpist Republicans this November – but we still have time to stop them.

So for the next 200 days, we’re…

 Mobilizing grassroots Democrats

Securing key resources for our incredible state Democrats

Making targeted investments in key races

Reaching out to voters by knocking on doors and phone banking

We won’t sugarcoat it – this work is vital, but it’s expensive. That’s why we’re asking now, with 200 days to go: Will you invest $7, $25 or whatever fits your budget into our movement to elect state Democrats and help our incredible state Democrats secure victories this November >>

If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately.

Our success on Election Day rests on what we’re able to accomplish in the next 200 days.

The funds we raise now will determine how many doors we’re able to knock on, voters we’re able to reach, and candidates we’re able to support. It all comes down to grassroots Democrats like you, owning a piece of this fight and supporting us when it matters most – today.

With the support of committed individuals like you, we can secure key victories for Democrats in state legislatures across the country this November. These incredible state Democrats will fight tirelessly to defend their state from right-wing attacks, and drive progress in their state.

But if we fail, it could have devastating consequences. You don’t want to wake up the morning after Election Day with any regrets. So we need your help today.

Can you chip in $7 today to help build our grassroots movement to elect state Democrats? Every single dollar goes toward our work to elect more strong Democratic voices to our state legislatures.

The clock is ticking – and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

I’ll get right to the point today: All On The Line’s end-of-month deadline for donations is at midnight on Thursday. It could be one of your last chances to pitch in a few bucks before every state has locked in its congressional maps for the next election.

Lately, All On The Line’s state-by-state plan for fair redistricting has been paying off. Without them, we might not be seeing headlines like “The GOP’s gerrymandering scheme backfires.” And I know overwhelming support from folks like you has been key to their success.

Chip in before All On The Line’s end-of-month deadline. The AOTL team will use every dollar you give to help secure fair elections ahead of the midterms -- and for years to come.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
DONATE $15DONATE $35
DONATE $50DONATE $100
DONATE $250Another Amount

Your donations have helped All On The Line train tens of thousands of volunteers, support voters in seven states fighting for fair maps in court, and invest well over $1M in digital ads that put pressure on elected officials to end map manipulation.

That’s a lot to be proud of -- but there’s so much left to do. Even though the initial map drawing is almost finished, a few legislatures will likely need to redraw maps after the midterms. And as we’ve seen, some redistricting lawsuits can carry on for years.

I don’t send fundraising emails like this for many organizations anymore -- and I wouldn’t do it for All On The Line if I didn’t believe their work mattered.

So if you’re able, pitch in before Thursday’s deadline to give All On The Line every tool they need to succeed.

I’m proud of our work on this issue, Sula. Together we’re making a real difference for our democracy.

Barack

Let me summarize what’s happening in the courts, Sula:

First, state supreme courts in states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina ruled against gerrymandering Republicans and for fair maps.

CNN: “Good news from state judges on gerrymandering”
CHIP IN!

But Republicans appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court in most of these states. SCOTUS’s decision in another case had just allowed Alabama’s congressional elections to proceed on manipulated maps, so we were very concerned.

Then we got some good news… sort of.

Reuters: “U.S. Supreme Court rebuffs Republicans in electoral map disputes”
CHIP IN!

The Supreme Court turned down the GOP – although some of the justices have hinted their support for an extreme legal argument that would undermine our federalist system of government. Plus, Republicans are now investing in stacking state supreme courts and are even talking about impeaching state judges who ruled against them.

So the fight continues. And that’s why I’m asking for your support today. Getting to this point has been a five-year battle, but we’re not done yet. Redistricting is a long and tough process, and if we don’t see it through to the end, Republicans will take advantage, plain and simple.

I know you’re not going to let that happen. Will you chip in today to help the NDRC keep building on our movement’s victories until we WIN the fight for fair redistricting?

Fight back!

Sula,

Have you heard of the “independent state legislature” theory? It’s a legal argument Republicans are promoting that says the only branch of state government that should have a say over how congressional elections are held is the legislature. In other words, state courts, the governor, and independent commissions should stay out of congressional redistricting and federal elections.

Not surprisingly, the theory is being promoted in states where 2011 GOP gerrymandering resulted in Republican-dominated state legislatures – and where courts, Democratic governors, or both have prevented Republicans from gerrymandering again in 2021-22.

See how this works? Only the branch of government that Republicans just happen to control should decide how the congressional maps are drawn – and if they’re manipulated or not. It sounds ridiculous (aren’t we supposed to have three co-equal branches of government?), but at least four Supreme Court justices have indicated they may be open to this theory!

This is just one of the reasons the NDRC needs your help to keep up the fight against Republican gerrymandering – because they’ll stop at nothing to get their rigged maps.

Team -- President Obama was crystal clear: "The future of our country is at stake" if we don't protect voting rights.

The pace of the GOP's vicious scheme has escalated RAPIDLY since last year.

-- FIRST: Trump spread lies about election fraud and REFUSED to concede to President Biden.
-- THEN: A far-right mob stormed the Capitol on January 6 in an attempted insurrection.
-- NOW: GOP officials are ATTACKING voting rights across the country to try and seize power by reducing our ability to vote.

They've introduced 400 bills to restrict access to the ballot already -- and they are NOT slowing down!

That's why Barack and Michelle Obama are fighting to protect voting rights and why we've launched a MASSIVE petition to join them -- but our records indicate you may not have stood with the Obamas yet, and we're still 8.4% short of our 100,000 signature goal!

Republicans want you to tune out, Sula. They want you to stop paying attention to redistricting so they can sneak in and finish manipulating the maps.

You won’t, though, will you? Chip in now >>

They want you to ignore the fact that states like these haven’t adopted their congressional maps yet:

FLORIDA, where extreme Gov. DeSantis is trying to out-gerrymander the legislature’s gerrymander

OHIO, where Republicans are trying to run out the clock before the 2022 elections by submitting round after round of gerrymandered maps

NEW HAMPSHIRE, where Gov. Sununu made a promise to veto a gerrymandered congressional map… but vetoed the redistricting reform that could have helped prevent this in the first place

MISSOURI, where Republicans are falling over themselves to create the worst possible gerrymander, leading to an impasse

LOUISIANA, where Democratic Gov. Edwards vetoed the GOP-controlled legislature’s manipulated map, leading to an impasse

These five states collectively have 59 congressional districts – that’s nearly 15% of all congressional seats nationwide! And that’s not even mentioning all the litigation that could “reset” the maps in other states.

So Sula – are you going to do what Republicans want and stop paying attention to the ongoing redistricting cycle? Or will you double down on your engagement by rushing a donation to help us keep fighting for fairness in every state?

Washington Post: It took a village to create a fairer congressional map “Any conclusion that this is “something of an accident,” as the Times puts it, utterly ignores the virtual village of lawyers, democracy advocates, individual citizen activists, courts and independent commissions that collectively resisted GOP efforts to deliver them the House majority simply by virtue of clever redistricting.”

Sula -- We keep seeing news coverage about the “surprising” redistricting turnaround, but we saw this coming. Like this opinion piece in the Washington Post noted, it took a village!

But this fight isn’t over.

We still have states like Florida at the height of their redistricting processes and states like Ohio where voters are challenging gerrymandered maps in court -- and recent court decisions have opened the door for maps in states like Alabama to be redrawn down the road.

Conservatives are a minority faction trying to engineer majority power by any means necessary, including gerrymandering the maps. And we know their recent losses in court will only push them to be more creative in future map manipulation and voter suppression.

President Obama said: "Republican politicians are doubling down on the steps they’ve taken to restrict voting by politically gerrymandering districts in a way that drowns out the voices of ordinary people.”
