Equity issuance in Brazil has begun what looks like robust recovery. But the decision for Brazilian companies to go public is complex and not always straightforward. Join the Chamber at Nasdaq where a panel will explore the IPO process, different aspects of what goes into the decision to go public including the business environment, and differences between Brazilian and international offerings. Legal issues figure importantly, especially concerning current and possible changes to regulation and adapting corporate governance to become a public company. Once the company decides to go ahead, the panel will look at next steps during the preparation of the IPO and feedback from investors. Finally, the panel will look at IPO activity in 2019 and offer expectations for 2020, address what portfolio managers are looking for in terms of issuance, and discuss the current environment for start-ups in Brazil and the potential for creating new public companies.

All On The Line

Every time we try to make progress, map manipulators dig their heels in. Wisconsin is the perfect example.

AP: Wisconsin Republicans dismiss nonpartisan redistricting plan by Scott Bauer Jan. 23 2020 Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' plan to create a nonpartisan redistricting commission to draw Wisconsin's electoral maps may put pressure on the Republicans who control the Legislature to consider an alternative plan, but it won't force them to do anything differently next year and GOP leaders made clear they won't change course.

Wisconsin has been a consistent battleground in the fight for fair maps. The maps drawn in 2011 were notoriously gerrymandered. In fact, during the 2018 election, Republicans won 62% of congressional seats with only 46% of votes.

Governor Evers saw the injustice inherent in the state's maps and created a nonpartisan redistricting commission to give voters a strong voice in this process. But the existing leadership in the legislature -- who hold power because they gerrymandered the maps way back in 2011 -- committed to making sure the lines are drawn in their favor for another decade.

In 2021, we will be facing pushback from map manipulators across the country. Politicians who benefit from a broken status quo aren't going to give up power easily. That's why we're building our network of grassroots activists now who will hold elected officials accountable -- because in places like Wisconsin, the fight has already begun.

Chip in to help ensure AOTL volunteers have the resources they need to hold map manipulators accountable.

We’ll be blunt, Sula -- the Supreme Court’s ruling last June that federal courts can’t put limits on partisan gerrymandering was bad news. The Court’s conservatives -- including John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh -- effectively told Republicans to go ahead and keep gerrymandering.
Eric H. Holder, Jr.: The Supreme Court blew it. Period. Full stop. HELP US FIGHT BACK >>>
But even though the Supreme Court’s decision made our fight even tougher, we won’t give up. If we have to go state by state to secure fair maps, that’s exactly what we’ll do. Will you help?

Going state by state means:
  • We’ll need the resources to invest in all nine of our 2020 target states
  • We’ll need more folks on the ground in states like Texas and Florida, which have 63 U.S. House seats between them
  • We’ll need a massive grassroots movement to elect fair-map candidates at every level.
We can’t do this without you, Sula. Can we count on your donation to help us invest in state-level strategies to fight gerrymandering?

What Happened: The Trump administration has acted on its previous decision to actively enforce Title IV of the Helms-Burton Act by preventing the CEO of a Spanish hotel chain from entering the United States based on his company’s alleged trafficking in confiscated Cuban property.
The Bottom Line: Executives of foreign and US companies, who “traffic” in “confiscated” property, and their family members may be prevented from traveling to or entering the United States on a long-term basis. Multinationals doing business with or in Cuba should analyze whether steps are necessary to mitigate the threat of penalization under Title IV.
