it's easy to get frustrated, especially when you keep seeing headlines like this:

Politico
“Say goodbye to swing districts. Lawmakers are drawing easy wins in dozens of states.”

But when I feel down, I like to remind myself of two things. First, the VICTORIES our movement is winning, which people like YOU made possible: fair maps in states like Colorado, Iowa, and Oregon. Positive steps taken toward equitable districts in Florida. People rising up and electing Democratic governors who can veto manipulated maps in places like Wisconsin.

Will you chip in for more victories like these?

The second thing is something President Obama said.

I know a lot of people are tired of politics right now. We don't have time to be tired. What is required is sustained effort.

Sustained effort. We knew fair maps wouldn't come easy, not with Republicans fighting tooth and nail to gerrymander. But the NDRC is in this for the long haul and we're committed to using all the tools available to us -- including public pressure, accountability at election time, and support for plaintiffs in lawsuits where necessary -- no matter how long it takes.

I'm asking for your help before tomorrow's end-of-month deadline because sustained effort requires sustained resources. Sula, will you give whatever you can to help us keep fighting for the fair system we all deserve?

Congress needs to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. Our movement has already invested $1 million in pressuring the Senate to pass voting rights legislation while Democrats are in charge.

When President Obama emailed you recently, he said: "As I reflect on the state of our democracy, I’m filled with both concern and hope. Concern because gerrymandering and voter suppression continue to pose a threat. And hope because I believe that, together, we can put power back in the hands of voters where it belongs."

We can accomplish this by passing the Freedom to Vote Act.

Will you pitch in to support our efforts to pass this bill and fight for fair redistricting?

Friend -- As I reflect on the state of our democracy, I’m filled with both concern and hope. Concern because gerrymandering and voter suppression continue to pose a threat. And hope because I believe that, together, we can put power back in the hands of voters where it belongs.

I know it’s the holiday season, so I wouldn’t ask unless I really thought it would make a difference:

If you’re in a position to do so, will you make a donation to All On The Line right now?

They’re in the midst of a campaign to help pass anti-gerrymandering legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and could use your help fighting for fair districts in Congress and states where redistricting is underway.

This could not be more important.

Right now, Republican politicians in states like Georgia and North Carolina are enacting maps that under-represent marginalized communities, while Republicans in Congress block federal voting rights legislation.

But what gives me hope is that our nation’s history is full of people who mobilized, marched, and pressured our government to act. That’s how change has happened before, and that’s how we can help achieve fair maps and protect the right to vote now.

If you believe in a better vision for our country and want to help safeguard our democracy, will you please consider donating to All On The Line? Any amount will go a long way.

Team, as a member of the NDRC team, I read about gerrymandering every single day. For the most part, I don’t get surprised anymore by the GOP’s brazen efforts to rig maps in every corner of the country.

But, today, this line jumped out at me:

GOP sees advantage as redistricting hits half-way point. -- The Hill

This is serious, Sula. If we don’t take immediate action, Republican lawmakers will implement the most gerrymandered maps we’ve seen in a generation.

We refuse to let the GOP get away with this -- so here’s how the NDRC is fighting back:

I won’t sugarcoat this -- there’s a lot on the line right now. If we fall short, Republicans could lock in their power for the next decade.

Luckily, we still have time to execute our action plan, fight back, and defend our democracy. But there’s no time to waste, which is why I’m asking: Will you rush a contribution now to help the NDRC keep up the fight for fair maps?

The Guardian spotted four ways Republicans are manipulating the maps:
The Guardian:
These maps show how Republicans are blatantly rigging elections
Dismantling Democratic districts
Diluting the influence of Black voters
Weakening diverse, Democratic-leaning suburbs
Packing Democrats into non-competitive districts
That's the bad news. Here's the good news:
The Hill: Americans are participating in redistricting like never before
Wisconsin Public Radio: Hundreds gather at Capitol to push back on GOP redistricting plan
Florida Politics: [FL] Senate leaders issue rare bipartisan call for deliberate, fair redistricting
Oregon Public Radio: National Democratic [Redistricting Committee] steps in to defend Oregon’s new congressional map
Two roads lay ahead of us: GOP gerrymandering, or FAIR MAPS. Which we end up with depends on you, friend.
Pres. Obama: I know a lot of people are tired of politics right now. We don't have time to be tired. What is required is sustained effort.
Chip in before it's too late

The maps are in. Roughly half the country has proposed or finalized new maps, but some think Democrats have already missed their shot. [Prove them wrong! Rush a contribution now to fight back]

Team, with roughly half of the country having proposed or finalized their new maps, some pundits are writing off Democrats’ chances of fighting back against gerrymandering.

The way we see it, we’re left with two options right now.

  • Option One: We can listen to the pundits, throw up our hands in defeat, and decide it’s too late to stop the Republicans’ gerrymandering plan. They’ll implement manipulated maps and lock in their power for the next decade.

  • Option Two: We can prove them wrong by doubling down on our efforts to build a grassroots army to fight gerrymandering in every corner of the country, mobilizing communities to speak out for fair maps, and, where necessary, supporting voters in lawsuits to fight gerrymandering.

Are you with us? Chip in now to take Option Two and FIGHT BACK against Republican map-rigging.

Look, we know things look bleak right now. But President Obama himself said "I believe activism will prevail over cynicism," and we think he’s right!

We’re ready to do whatever it takes to defend our democracy and stop GOP gerrymandering, but we need your support to power our movement. Will you rush a contribution now to join the fight?

I have two things I need to share with you, friend, but I don't want you to panic. Because as bad as this is going to sound, we have a plan for getting things back on the right track.

The first thing is this headline from Mother Jones: "Republicans Are Erasing Decades of Voting Rights Gains Before Our Eyes"

Don't panic -- fight back!

The second thing is what A.G. Holder said to CNN's Wolf Blitzer a couple of weeks ago: "This is a very troublesome time. I thought that after the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act... we seem to be on an arc that was moving toward greater inclusion when it came to voting. But I think we have certainly seen that reversed over the course of the last couple of years."

Scary stuff, right? But like I said, the NDRC has a plan:

➞ Fight as hard as we can to support getting the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act on President Biden’s desk for his signature

➞ Speak out against voter suppression in the states

➞ Continue working on the ground in more than a dozen states to prevent Republicans from gerrymandering, which compounds the harm of voter suppression

Will you pitch in to help us execute this plan, friend?

Look, I know sometimes things can look bleak. But I promise you that the NDRC will NEVER stop fighting and NEVER stop heeding the words of President Obama, who said that "I believe activism will prevail over cynicism."

The thing is, how much we can accomplish depends on how much support we can raise from this community. And that's why I'm asking you to choose to make a donation today.
