Tribute to Lino Otto Bohn
(1920 – 2023)

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, we regretfully inform you of the passing, on March 27, 2023 at the age of 102, of Lino Otto Bohn, former General Manager of Banco do Brasil New York, President of the Chamber from 1974-76, and longtime Chamber member and supporter.  A friend to many members and Directors, Mr. Bohn was always willing to assist the Chamber and partnered on many initiatives.  His participation in joint projects elevated the quality of Chamber programs and strengthened ties between Brazil and the United States.

Mr. Bohn was born on September 21, 1920 in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Faculdade de Ciências Econômicas do Rio de Janeiro.  In 1942, he joined Banco do Brasil, to which he dedicated the majority of his career.  As a representative of Banco do Brasil’s Foreign Trade Group, he became part of a workgroup focused on the recovery of foreign cotton markets.  He was appointed Director of Foreign Trade and was subsequently sent on missions to Europe, including Germany, Belgium, Holland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Italy, and Switzerland (1958-59).

After serving as a representative of the Brazilian Trade Bureau in New York, Mr. Bohn opened a Banco do Brasil branch in Hamburg, Germany.  In 1972, he moved to New York and assumed the role of General Manager of Banco do Brasil New York, a position he held through 1986.  In this role, he was instrumental in managing Brazil’s position amidst the international debt crisis.  He successfully opened a Banco do Brasil branch in Grand Cayman, of which he was named General Manager.  He also established and became Manager of Banco do Brasil Leasing Corporation, headquartered in New York, which jumpstarted the sale and leasing of Embraer aircraft.

Mr. Bohn is survived by his wife, Georgina Castilione Bohn; daughter, Helena Bohn de Andrade; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends of Mr. Bohn are invited to a memorial service on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at:

Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home

352 East 87th Street

New York, NY 10128

Mr. Bohn will then be transported to São Paulo, Brazil, where another service will be held (information to be announced soon).

Headlines like these are unsettling, Sula. But we’re not powerless. Our whole team is working overtime to react to the NC Supreme Court’s rehearing of Harper v. Hall, the case that struck down the legislature’s gerrymandered state Senate map just last year.

Extreme conservatives are ready to rip up North Carolina's protections against map manipulation and believe they have an ally in the new majority on the state Supreme Court. This is a decision that we’ll be feeling for years. We must be prepared to protect fair maps, no matter how the North Carolina Supreme Court rules.

Chip in $20 to support our work to end gerrymandering!

All On The Line is working to restore justice to American democracy. We built a grassroots movement for fair maps and helped thousands of folks engage in their state’s redistricting process.

Now we must mobilize across the nation to combat a wide range of gerrymandering threats such as this one in North Carolina. And we need support from folks like you. Help us keep up this fight to protect fair maps and rush a contribution today.

With the help of you and this grassroots team, we made history last November – flipping four chambers, adding three new Democratic trifectas, and defending every single majority. But we can’t take our foot off the gas now – the stakes are too high.

State Democrats are facing a slew of special elections over the next two months – and the Virginia House and Senate are in play this November.

Electing Democratic leaders who will support President Biden’s agenda in statehouses across the country is critical to building a better future in your state. But it’s up to grassroots supporters like you to own a piece of this fight and give state Democrats the resources they need to go toe-to-toe against their Republican opponents.

As an official member, you’ll be at the forefront of the fight to defeat extremist state Republicans, helping elect Democrats who will work to secure a progressive future in your state. So can we count you in?

Donate $10 (worth 5X) or more right now to activate your official 2023 DLCC Membership, and we’ll send you your very own membership card in the mail, so you can have a physical reminder of your commitment to electing state Democrats >>

Earlier this month, Russian forces made advances in the besieged city of Bakhmut. This is just the latest update as the war continues with no end in sight. And 100,000 American service members still remain stationed in Europe to support our NATO allies in these times of uncertainty.

Today, we're counting on you to stand with the ever-growing number of military families that need our support at this critical moment — and right now, that means providing our brave troops with the support they need.

We've set a response goal of $50,000 to continue supporting our troops across the globe, as well as their families back home. Please, we're counting on military supporters like you to rush a gift before tomorrow’s urgent midnight goal deadline:

Will you give $29 or more immediately to help us send support to troops deployed in Eastern Europe and around the world?

Abortion is (yet again) likely to be the top issue on 2024 ballots. This time though, in Ohio:

FIRST: The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24th, 2022, taking away the Federal Constitutional Right to Abortion.

THEN: Voters showed up and showed out in unexpected states (Kansas and Kentucky) to vote down constitutional amendments that would have eliminated all protections for abortion rights in the state’s constitution.

NOW: It’s time to take the same fight to Ohio.

Here at The Collective PAC, we know how important it is to elect pro-choice champions to Congress, especially Black women, who will take action to protect reproductive rights on day one — just like Emilia Sykes and Shontel Brown, who we helped to elect!

And we’re ready to elect even more progressive Black democrats in 2024. Chip in $10 now to help us go bigger and bolder so we can support representatives in Ohio and the states that will (inevitably) come after in our fight to protect abortion once and for all >>>
