Composer, arranger, producer, and guitarist Mario Adnet is a Grammy Award-winning musician and frequent contender at major events like the Latin Grammy Awards, Brazilian Music Awards, and more. While music speaks more loudly than awards, the diversity of his wins and nominations—including Best Classical Album, Best Crossover Album, Best Latin Jazz Album, and Best Arranger—sheds light on the depth of his talent. Adnet is acclaimed for his loving reinventions of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s compositions, and Jobim actually recorded one of Adnet’s arrangements on his final (Grammy Award-winning) album. The Jobim songbook is one of modern music’s most beloved repertoires, and Adnet is one of the most creative and heartfelt artists currently engaging with this special music. He’ll be supported by a superb group that includes a fellow musician joining us from Brazil: drummer Rafael Barata, the latter of whom recently performed in Rose Theater with international superstar Eliane Elias.

The program will also include Bachianas Brasileiras no. 9 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as the premiere of Mexican composer Cristóbal MarYán's Viral, which examines social media.

A few months ago, President Obama and I emailed you and asked you to get involved in a movement that could bring about a major turning point for our democracy:

The fight to eliminate partisan and racial gerrymandering.

The response has been incredible, and hundreds of thousands of you signed up to start taking action right away.

You've hosted redistricting house parties and invited me in, over video conference, to start the conversation. You've participated in trainings with OFA to learn more. And you've had real conversations with your friends and family about why this fight is so important.

Together we're changing the narrative, and we're seeing victories all over the country.

In just the past few weeks, a federal court in North Carolina ruled that the state's legislative districts violated the U.S Constitution, and ordered them to be redrawn. Shortly after, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania ruled against the current congressional map and has ordered it to be redrawn. The United States Supreme Court has the opportunity to act this term on similar partisan gerrymandering cases.

And what I've seen happening on the ground has been remarkable: Volunteers going door to door to make sure their neighbors' voices will be heard, and collecting signatures to change the system to ensure a more fair democracy. The momentum for change is building, and I want to thank you for being a part of this with me.
