BRAZILIAN CULTURE        As the "dog-days-of-summer" progress for most New Yorkers and visitors navigate through The Big Apple, the winter season arrives in Brazil with the same intensity making festivities at this time of year warmer with music, dancing, regional foods, and "hot" libations. It's time for Festa Junina! Celebrations began in June and extend through the end of July across Brazil. In this edition of Bossa  Magazine, we offer a glimpse of this annual, colorful, cultural event. Festa Junina began with modest festivities enjoyed by rural farmers, known as caipiras. Today, it's a staple Brazilian event and celebrated everywhere. Men wear costumes resembling farm boys with large straw hats. Ladies wear pigtails, freckles, painted gap teeth and red-checkered dresses.
