citizen

  • All On The Line

In my farewell address in Chicago over two years ago, I said something I still firmly believe today: Being a citizen is the most important job in our democracy.

It's a title that we all proudly share. Not just when there's an election or when our own narrow interests are at stake -- but every single day, over a full lifetime. I've always believed it's on every one of us to safeguard the principles and rights enshrined in our Constitution, and to continually try to improve this country of ours. That's what citizenship demands of us.

And that's why I'm reaching out today, citizen to citizen, to ask you to chip in and take a stand against one of the most critical issues our democracy faces: Gerrymandering.

All On The Line's Citizen Commitment means, together, we'll stand up against those who manipulate maps in a way that makes elections unfair and unrepresentative. It means we'll support candidates and elected officials who want districts that are fair and representative -- and we'll fight for them. It means we'll hold politicians accountable to ensure we have a fair redistricting process in 2021.

I'm asking you to sign the Citizen Commitment -- but first, I wanted to tell you why I believe so deeply in this cause and the people who are fighting for it every day.

If you're tired of politicians ignoring the will of voters; of extreme legislation designed to benefit narrow special interests; of stalled progress on common-sense solutions to so many of the issues we care about... this is one way to do something about it. This is a moment for you to exercise your power as a citizen.

Sign the commitment and stand with the thousands of other Americans committed to fair maps. I'm proud to be there right beside you.

Trade liberalization is a key component of Brazil’s reform agenda, and Minister Paulo Guedes promised new impetus in various fronts, including, possibly, unilateral tariff reductions. How existing trade terms will be revised, and how that will impact Brazil’s economic future is open for analysis.

Please join us for a panel discussion to explore a range of trade related issues. Gabriel Sanchez of the IDB will highlight existing trade agreements and how they could affect negotiations of new agreements. Hussein Kalout will consider how current trade policies has shaped the Brazilian economy and what could change with liberalization. Dan Ioschpe, Chairman of the Board of Iochpe-Maxion, will review the practical effects on exports and imports of existing trade agreements, and what the impact of any revisions might be. Laura Siegel Rabinowitz of Kelley Drye will provide an update on the proposed Brazil-U.S. free trade agreement.

All On The Line

I know there are a lot of campaigns asking for your support right now. Today, I want to make sure you know about one that's absolutely critical to the future of our democracy.

It's called All On The Line, and it's led by a team that's fighting to end partisan and racial gerrymandering nationwide. It's an effort rooted in common sense and based on the idea that voters should pick their politicians -- not the other way around. This work is a top priority for me and my friend, former Attorney General Eric Holder.

In a second, I'm going to ask you to chip in to support All On The Line -- but first, I wanted to tell you why I believe so deeply in this cause and the people who are fighting for it every day.

It's because of the ordinary folks coming together to pick up the fight -- because they believe that with enough effort and enough passion, we can make things better.

This team is growing fast, and they're doing it the right way. All On The Line is empowering local organizers to become redistricting experts, offering free top-notch training, and helping activists make a difference in their communities. First and foremost, it's a campaign driven and informed by local volunteers.

It's good, old-fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor organizing -- the same style of organizing that I based my campaigns on in 2008 and 2012. Some of All On The Line's local leaders are the same talented folks who've fought for so much progress over the past decade. Others are first-time organizers -- new activists who are fired up and ready to go.

All have one thing in common: They want to restore fairness to our democracy.

I hope you'll join us. Contribute to All On The Line today and be a part of the team that is fighting to make our voting districts fairer:

This work is so important to me, and here's why.

Over the past decade, we've seen firsthand how gerrymandering plays a role in blocking progress on issues that the majority of Americans agreed on. Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to vote on common-sense gun laws, blocked meaningful action on climate change, and tried again and again to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip down the security it offers to millions of Americans.

Progress on so many of the issues we care about was hurt or hindered by gerrymandering -- by politicians who knew their seats were safe from any real challenge. Because when you've got a safe seat, you've got less reason to seek out common ground.

But with All On The Line leading the way, we can change things. We can make sure our democracy works for everybody.

This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a big movement. Chip in today to support this critical work:
