When Judge Janet Protasiewicz was elected to the state Supreme Court, liberals flipped the court’s ideological balance, and Democrats regained a much-needed check on the GOP’s power. It was a huge victory thanks to grassroots donors who supported Democrats’ efforts. THEN, a lawsuit was filed to deal a blow to Republican gerrymandering. If it’s successful, this lawsuit could put all 132 sitting legislators up for election next year – giving Democrats an opportunity to strip Republicans of their supermajority. NOW: Republicans are threatening to impeach duly-elected Judge Protasiewicz less than two months after taking office – it’s an undemocratic power grab.
