Foi lançado nos Estados Unidos o livro "Life As It Is - Selected Stories" ("A Vida Como Ela É - Histórias Selecionadas"), como o subtítulo sugere uma seleção de 58 das melhores crônicas que Nelson Rodrigues fez para o jornal "A Última Hora" em sua coluna de mesmo nome ("A Vida Como Ela É") que durou uma década.


A tarefa mais difícil de Alex Ladd, o tradutor da obra de Nelson Rodrigues no mundo, foi convencer os editores gringos que o leitor americano está pronto para o autor brasileiro. É comum nos Estados Unidos pessoas desmaiarem no cinema, protestarem publicamente contra obras de arte e censurarem a sexualidade em detrimento da violência em filmes. Além do mais, o anglo-saxão é muito mais "frio", não se identificando tanto com a "enxurrada de emoções" dos latinos. Ladd conseguiu convencer os editores e o livro foi publicado.


Talvez pela globalização maciça proporcionada pela internet, talvez pelo americano mais culto ter tido sua curiosidade e relação ao que lhe é "alienígena" despertada nos últimos anos, talvez pela população latina ter aumentado tanto naquele país, "Nelson tem sido bem recebido" e o livro tem tido boas críticas e boa aceitação.

Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization, IREO is an Intergovernmental Organization that works to promote the use of affordable, clean sources of renewable energy worldwide. It strives to make Alternative Renewable Energy sources a key-driver to eradicate the current depletion of our environment by the use of fossil fuels that has led to the climate change and energy crisis due to high prices and other factors we are now facing. IREO strives to achieve global energy security, and bridge the energy divide with a special priority for the Developing and the Least Developed Countries with a South to South Sustainable Development Approach.

IREO is formed through a Constituting Treaty between the Official Members States depicted in box below that agreed to form a Collaborative Intergovernmental Cooperative Free Agreement for the promotion of Alternative Renewal Energy Resources to promote scientific research, initiatives, and education in favor of international cooperation.

The term "Intergovernmental" means that the organization is formed by a Formal Legal Agreement between the Member States / Countries that have agreed to realize a specific set of goals.

IREO is headquartered in New York, USA.

IREO is led by a Secretary-General under Article Five of the Constituting Treaty.

IREO Adheres to: The Directives Associated with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961

IREO UN Status: IREO has a de facto status within the UN and the U.S.A. Its Multilateral Treaty will be submitted for registration on the early part of 2009 under Article 102 of the United Nations Charter. IREO will be submitting a petition for inclusion as an Intergovernmental Observer to the Economic and Social Council and the UN General Assembly in 2009.

IREO in Promoting the United Nations System strives to uphold the Directives Associated with the following UN GA Resolutions: Acknowledging the relevance of Alternative Renewable Energy Sources in the sustainable development agenda, Resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (A/S-19/2) Programme for the Further Implementation of Agenda 21 Energy Articles 42-46. UN GA Resolutions: 62/209 South-South Cooperation, 62/161 The Right to Development.

Functions of IREO


Based on the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and the outcomes and declarations of the various United Nations Conferences and Summits convened over the last 10 years, I.R.E.O developed the following goals:

Promote energy efficiency and conservation;

Foster the collaboration of governments, NGOs, IGOs, academia, and the private sector at the most basic community level to educate the citizenries of the world on the dire need to change its current patterns of energy production and consumption;

Build alliances with scientists, universities, associations, think tanks and groups that have as an objective: the development of new technologies, to serve as a repository of information on new developments in the area of alternate renewable energy generation, including the results of actual applications either done as pilot projects or in general usage;

Create awareness to the public via newsletters, IREO's website, summits, conferences of local, regional and international scopes;

Encourage the greater use of renewable energy sources as a mean of reducing global warming and its negative impact on the environment, economies and people's lives;

Work collaboratively with governments to promote the use of renewable energy sources that are readily available to their respective countries and to propagate the use of proven technologies to other countries;

Facilitate the transition from a dependence on carbon based energy sources to renewable sources, particularly in the underdeveloped countries where tradition and economic conditions make it difficult to achieve. In this regard, IREO will assist in creating the alliances necessary to establish pilot projects in those developing countries that wish to start the process;

Greening the coal toward energy chain;

Promote and implement renewable energy for agriculture.

Mulheres ganham espaço na carreira diplomática

Historicamente dominada por homens, a política externa no Brasil se abre aos poucos à influência feminina. Levantamento interno do Itamaraty, obtido pelo Correio, revela que as mulheres ocupam 15 dos 166 postos de chefia no exterior, quase 10%. É pouco no horizonte da igualdade de gênero, mas se trata de um recorde na diplomacia brasileira — o que alimenta esperanças de que uma mulher seja alçada ao gabinete central do Ministério das Relações Exteriores na próxima década. Não faltarão candidatas, se depender do chanceler Celso Amorim, que em seu primeiro mandato promoveu nove embaixadoras, o maior número em uma gestão.

Hoje, as embaixadas brasileiras em Moçambique, Coréia do Sul, Armênia, Nicarágua, Senegal, Tunísia e Vaticano são comandadas por mulheres. Da mesma forma, a missão do Brasil na Comunidade Européia e os consulados gerais de Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Los Angeles, Lagos e Porto. Na Secretaria de Estado há mulheres dirigindo quatro grandes departamentos: Europa, Ásia e Oceania, Direitos Humanos e Organismos Internacionais. Neste último está a embaixadora Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, que, em breve, se tornará a primeira mulher a chefiar a missão brasileira na ONU, substituindo Ronaldo da Motta Sardemberg.
Viotti é uma espécie de unanimidade no Itamaraty, e a aura de respeito que forjou a creditam como candidata natural a chanceler no futuro. Tudo depende, é claro, de o ministério não entrar no leilão político dos governos e manter seu perfil técnico. Ao lado de Viotti, ganham força a cônsul-geral em Buenos Aires, Maria da Graça Nunes Carrion, e a embaixadora em Paris, Vera Pedrosa. Outro nome em alta é o da ministra Maria Nazareth Azevedo, que desde maio de 2005 é chefe do gabinete de Amorim — posição que exige confiança e discrição, mas geralmente plataforma para vôos mais altos.

Basta dizer que o antecessor de Nazareth, Antonio Patriota, virou subsecretário político do ministério e, em menos de dois anos, foi catapultado a embaixador em Washington. Segundo a assessoria de imprensa do Itamaraty, “a nomeação de diplomatas mulheres para postos importantes e sua promoção” fazem parte dos chamados “mecanismos objetivos” instituídos na gestão de Celso Amorim para valorizar a carreira. Para Viotti, a presença de um maior número de mulheres em posições de chefia no Itamaraty e em postos importantes no exterior reflete uma “evolução da situação da mulher no Brasil em diversas áreas”.

Ela considera que essa presença ainda é “proporcionalmente muito pequena”, mas segue dinâmica cada vez mais forte nas políticas públicas do Brasil e na agenda internacional. Países sul-americanos como Chile e Colômbia já tiveram chanceleres mulheres, assim como Estados Unidos, Paraguai e Equador atualmente. “Espero que a tendência de valorização da participação da mulher na carreira nos leve em pouco tempo a uma situação em que não mais chame atenção o fato de cargos importantes na diplomacia serem ocupados por mulheres”, observa a embaixadora, que evita comentar seu próprio futuro. (Por Claudio Dantas Sequeira Correio Braziliense ).
