Big news, Sula: We're planning to make our second round of 2020 investments THIS TUESDAY, June 30.
But here's the catch: Where and how much we invest depends on how much we can raise this quarter.
So we're moving our end-of-quarter deadline up one day, to Monday, June 29. The amount we raise by midnight on Monday will determine how much we can invest in our target states and even whether we can expand the map!
We've never needed you more.

Tribute to Almirante Fernando Eduardo Studart Wiemer
(1947-2020)
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, we regretfully inform you of the passing of Almirante Fernando Eduardo Studart Wiemer, former Military Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations (2013-15) and longtime Chamber affiliate and supporter. Almirante Wiemer’s dialogue with the Chamber strengthened ties between Brazil and the United States and furthered the Chamber’s mission of promoting trade and investment between the two nations. His interaction with the Brazilian community was highlighted through his dedicated support of the celebrations of Brazil’s Independence Day and Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron of Brazil, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Born in Fortaleza, Brazil, Almirante Wiemer graduated from the Naval Academy in 1970. In 1973, he was promoted to First Lieutenant and served on various submarines in Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, and Humaitá. In 1981, he assumed the post of Warning Commander of the Guarda-Marinha Brito, his first command at sea, and later assumed command of the Navy hospital ship Carlos Chagas. He was designated to serve in the Military Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, a position he held from 1987-90. Following, he commanded the submarine Tupi. In 1995, he was assigned to serve at the Naval War School, overseeing a course on Maritime Policy and Strategy. From 1997-2001, he served in the Cabinet of the Naval Ministry as Advisor to the Chief of Staff, Chief Parliamentary Counsel, and Deputy Chief of Staff. He was then appointed Commander of the Naval Academy and subsequently promoted to Vice Admiral. At the Ministry of Defense, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Policy and Strategy. He later held the positions of Commander of the Second Naval District, Fleet Commander in Chief, General Director for Navy Personnel, Commander of Naval Operations, General Director of Navigation, and ultimately, Chief of Staff of the Navy.
Almirante Wiemer was awarded numerous Brazilian and foreign medals throughout his career, including: Ordem do Mérito da Defesa, Ordem do Mérito Naval, Ordem do Mérito Militar, Ordem do Mérito Aeronáutico, Ordem do Rio Branco, Ordem Mérito Cartográfico, Ordem do Mérito Judiciário Militar, Medalha da Vitória, Medalha do Serviço Militar, Medalha do Mérito Marinheiro, Medalha do Pacificador, Medalha do Mérito Santos Dumont, Medalha Marechal Trompowsky, and Medalha do Mérito Tamandaré. He is survived by his wife, Helena Barthem Wiemer; three children, Úrsula, Rafael, and Juliana; and four grandchildren, Natália, Bernardo, Pedro, and Gustavo.
