Bush Have a New USO Center To Call Their Own U.S. Navy sailors spend long periods of time in a relatively small space — a floating structural steel vessel with very few port visits. This can be extremely isolating and stressful. That’s why, with your support, the USO opened the doors to the first aircraft carrier-based USO center on June 6, 2023. We extend our appreciation to RTX for its support in making events like this possible.   GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT       Chris Hemsworth Surprises Troops During “Extraction 2” Screening Last month, Chris Hemsworth greeted troops during a surprise visit to an advanced screening of “Extraction 2.” The event was hosted by the USO at IPIC Fulton Market theater in New York City. More than 100 service members were in attendance!     Salute to Service: NFL-USO Tour in Japan New Orleans Saints’ Johnathan Abram and Baltimore Ravens’ Roquan Smith embarked on a week-long NFL-USO tour to Japan, visiting U.S. troops and their families at military bases across the country. The tour included visits to Air Force and Marine bases, and the players participated in various base activities, including unit visits, one-on-one meetings and onsite NFL PLAY 60 camps. Our Republican counterparts released a memo detailing their plan for a far-right takeover in Virginia. The GOP is dead set on helping Virginia Republicans clutch onto their razor-thin majority in the House of Delegates and chip away at our Senate majority. They’re partnering with far-right Gov. Tribute to Lee M. Elman (June 6, 1936 - November 27, 2022) The Board of Directors of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce is deeply saddened to learn of the passing, on November 27, 2022 at the age of 86, of Lee Elman, longtime Chamber member and supporter and an active participant in our activities.  Mr. Elman was a dedicated member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and also served on our Trade & Business Investment Committee.   Born on June 6, 1936 in Mount Kisco, NY, Mr. Elman graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University.  He went on to become a Fulbright scholar at the University of Bologna before earning two degrees from Yale Law School.   In 1979, Mr. Elman founded real estate investment firm Elman Investors Inc., which purchased government-occupied property.  His business successes allowed him to be a generous and passionate patron of the arts, including theater and music.  He cofounded the Aston Magna Music Festival, now in its 50th year; volunteered as Cultural Affairs Commissioner for New York City under Mayors Abe Beame and Ed Koch; and, for 22 years, was a member of the New York State Council of the Arts.   Mr. Elman is survived by his longtime companion, Judy Ney; his daughter, Alexandra Foley; his cousin, Esther Schwartz; and many devoted friends.  His steadfast commitment and contributions to the Chamber strengthened ties between Brazil and the United States and furthered our mission of promoting trade and investment between the two nations.  His presence and company will be missed.   More information on Lee Elman’s great life and legacy can be found here:   The Berkshire Edge - Lee M.
