CONVERSATION WITH  IVAN GRILO, MODERATED BY TATIANE SCHILARO

WHEN: Thursday, November 29 @ 7:00 - 8:00 pm
WHERE: b[x] Gallery, 203 Harrison Place, 3rd floor, Brooklyn, NY
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

ANNEXB in collaboration with THE 55 PROJECT co-presents a conversation with Brazilian artist Ivan Grilo that explores the public art project Escribe una carta de amor (Write a Love Letter), developed at  Mana Contemporary Miami.  Using poetic phrases to activate public spaces, Grilo spread out a set of 9 bronze plates in his signature-style across Downtown Miami. Inspired by a fictitious love letter, Grilo’s messages can also be read as a political manifesto. They are written in Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole and English to reflect Miami's ethnic and cultural diversity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ivan Grilo has a degree in Visual Arts from PUC-Campinas and has received various awards, suchs as Funarte Marc Ferrez Photography Prize, Foco Bradesco ArtRio, Fundação Marcos Amaro and SP/Arte. His works are in collections such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, MASP-SP, MAM-SP, MAR-RJ, and the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR
Tatiane Schilaro is a curator and art writer. She is AnnexB’s Creative Director and a Ph.D. Candidate in Visual Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz.
