2017-2018 COMPETITION AWARDING FOUR FELLOWSHIPS

The President Néstor Kirchner Fellowship is focused on supporting the training of leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean, working in political/social and academic fields. The Fellowship consists of an exchange of ideas and experiences between the Fellow and academics, politicians, and civil society agents in the city of New York selected based on the academic work presented by the Fellow.

The Fellowship covers a two-week stay in New York (during predetermined dates) and will be based at The New School. The Fellow will present his/her work to students and academics of The New School, will meet with political and civil society leaders, and will take part in various other activities such as visits to local government offices and multinational organizations, as well as tour museums, and public and university libraries, among other activities.

This call for applications will award four Fellowships. Fellowship 1 is a competition for Argentine citizens. Fellowship 2 is a competition for citizens of Latin American and the Caribbean countries, excluding Argentina. Fellowships 3 and 4 are competitions for citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean countries.

Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship

Img-Issues
The Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship provides academic and professional opportunities to advance the reporting skills of women journalists who focus on human rights and social justice. The Fellowship was created in memory of The Boston Globe correspondent and IWMF Courage in Journalism Award (1998) winner Elizabeth Neuffer, who died while reporting in Iraq on May 9, 2003. In collaboration with Neuffer’s family and friends, the IWMF started this program to honor Neuffer’s legacy while advancing her work in the fields of human rights and social justice.
The Neuffer Fellowship is designed for affiliated or freelance women journalists with at least three years of professional experience in journalism working in print, broadcast, or digital media. All nationalities are welcome to apply but non-native English speakers must have excellent written and verbal English skills in order to fully participate in and benefit from the program. The Fellow will complete research and coursework at MIT’s Center for International Studies and journalism internships at The Boston Globe and The New York Times. The flexible structure of the program will provide the fellow with opportunities to pursue academic research and hone her reporting skills. Past fellows have taken advantage of opportunities to publish work under their byline through various media outlets.
Linda Pizzuti Henry
“Elizabeth Neuffer was a courageous reporter for the Globe who was determined to shine a light on injustice wherever she found it, and we continue to be inspired by her example and her work. We’re grateful that the IWMF fellowship in her name has enabled courageous women journalists around the world to carry on that tradition.”
–Linda Pizzuti Henry, Boston Globe Managing Director

Organizing for Action

OFA volunteers have been fighting hard for years to make progress on climate change, because we all deserve cleaner air, fewer extreme weather events, and the chance to build new renewable energy jobs -- both right now and for generations to come.

And we've made huge strides. But on a day like today, we're reminded of how much further we have to go. The administration just signed an executive order designed to "free up" hundreds of national monuments and thousands of acres of federal lands that President Obama protected.

It's their latest attempt to drag our climate and environmental progress backwards -- and endanger us all by denying the threats that the overwhelming consensus shows us to be imminent.

We can't let them roll back the progress we've worked so hard to achieve.OFA is building a team that's ready to fight back -- will you be a part of it?

Last Saturday, we made a big stand at the March for Science. OFA volunteers raised their voices across more than 500 cities to say that denying climate change is dangerous, and we're proudly doubling down on our message this Saturday, 4/29, at the People's Climate March.

This administration may be bent on dismantling the progress we've made in recent years, but together we can protect it -- and continue to fight for policies that will improve the lives of ourselves, our families, and those in our communities.

The work to protect our climate isn't close to done -- say you'll refuse to let this administration roll back our progress:

Leadership in a Challenging Century

Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the Picker Center for Executive Education and Training of the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) is offering Leadership in a Challenging Century - a program designed for mid-career management professionals as a platform for those looking for an opportunity to learn new pertinent skills, to acquire specific knowledge about different topics, and to reflect about their daily practices along with colleagues from the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

Building skills to strengthen one’s professional profile

Competent and experienced professionals, managers from different fields will contribute as well as gain and exchange ideas in this dynamic, short, eight-day intensive program. The course focuses on acquiring critical tools and knowledge to analyze, problem solve and make better informed decisions for your employer and your own professional career. Columbia’s renowned faculty and successful practitioners will help equip the management professional with confidence, knowledge and skills necessary to engage peers and subordinates, in order to maximize team productivity and enhance results.

Curriculum and methodology

The Leadership in a Challenging Century program consists of a total of nine lectures and eight site visits complementing the face to face lectures on the Columbia University campus in New York City. A combination of multiple learning methodologies – lectures, site visits, case studies, online lectures and workshops – lends itself to the most effective way of imparting knowledge to the busy manager, who is looking for professional development, but does not have the time to invest in a longer term degree. Columbia University professors as well as invited practitioners, will address the following topics: Leadership and Public Private Partnerships, Public Ethics, Communication in Organizations, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, among others.

The students will have access to online readings through CourseWorks – a platform used by regular Columbia students. Moreover, informal gatherings will take place in New York during the two-week course to promote valuable networking among professionals of the Leadership in a Challenging Century program and other SIPA programs, such as the Master’s Program in Economic Policy Management, GEMPA (Global Executive Master’s in Public Administration) and EMPA (Executive Master’s in Public Administration).
