After two years of intense discussions and more than 24,000 comment letters, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued the final climate disclosure rules in an almost 900-page document. While the rules are under a voluntary SEC stay and still face legal challenges, they represent the new reporting reality for US capital markets.  Beyond reporting, the rules will influence firm behavior and performance over time, directly affecting US firms operating in Brazil and Brazilian firms with
ties / access to US capital markets.

The SEC’s new disclosure rules represent the last of the “Big 3” ESG reporting standards issued, the others coming from the European Union (EU) as part of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and internationally issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). While the expectation is that most companies will be affected by the ESG disclosure rules, the requirements differ significantly, with no equivalency provisions provided.  Moreover, additional SEC disclosure requirements are expected soon on other ESG themes, such as human capital.
The new climate requirements raise the below questions:
  • How will companies meet the challenge of producing, communicating, and explaining new disclosures?
  • How will companies communicate their ESG risks, opportunities, strategies, targets, and progress in compelling stories?
  • How will investors be able to compare and evaluate investment alternatives using the new information?
  • What will the sanctions be for non-compliance and how will investors react to firms in non-compliance with these specific rules?  Will there be de facto ordering of compliance rules in the market evaluation of firm compliance performance?
  • How long will it take for everyone to be ESG literate?

To delve into these questions and more, the Brazilian-American Chamber
of Commerce is pleased to host a webinar on “New Climate Disclosure Rules:
What’s Next?”Join the discussion with our esteemed panel of experts to learn about the new framework and how the rules will affect operations for US and Brazilian firms alike.

In a blatant attempt to dilute the Black vote, Republicans redrew the map to split a community of more than 140,000 Black voters into three separate districts.

Last year, Black voters challenged these unjust maps, but now the Supreme Court has sent this crucial case back to the lower courts, marking the first racial gerrymandering case impacted by their decision last month.

Republicans will stop at nothing to weaken the power of the Black vote because they know that when we vote, we win. That’s why we can’t afford to stop fighting back. Can you pitch in $10 right now to help us continue our work to organize, mobilize, and get Black voters to the polls in 2024?

Since 2020 Republicans have exploited their power to draw congressional maps that strip Black voters of their political influence. Arkansas is no exception.

This year is one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes, so we must make sure that every voice is heard and every vote counts.

Will you donate $10 or whatever you can to help us continue our critical work?

USO Supporter,

Tomorrow, we commemorate one of the proudest moments in our nation's history: when Allied troops landed on the coast of Normandy during WWII to liberate France from Nazi Germany and defeat the Hitler regime.

The memory of those who fought on that important day 80 years ago is a reminder of the incredible lengths our service members are prepared to go to in defense of our country, our allies and our freedoms.

And to honor those who served on D-Day, it's important to remember exactly what happened on this important day that helped change the course of world history. Will you take our quiz now to test your knowledge of this critically important historic event?
