A judge threw out the gerrymandered map and implemented a new, fairer map.  Now: Last month, Utah lawmakers voted to ceremonially object to the new court-ordered map and extend the filing deadline for congressional candidates running in the 2026 midterms — buying time to fight back against this fairer map. This week, the GOP-controlled legislature’s lawyers filed a notice to appeal the case to the Utah Supreme Court. Anti-democracy forces are also collecting signatures to effectively reverse the 2018 initiative, and repeal Utah’s ban on partisan gerrymandering.  Let’s review: The fair maps movement prevailed in court.
