In recent weeks, the dissemination of information about a supposed halt to US visas for Brazilians has generated apprehension among people who are in the immigration process or who intend to begin a visa application process for the United States. However, this interpretation does not accurately reflect the current situation.
The United States government announced a temporary administrative pause in the consular issuance of immigrant visas for citizens of a specific list of countries, including Brazil. The measure is related to an internal review of the application of the rule known as public charge, which involves criteria of financial self-sufficiency for the immigrant.
According to Piquet Law Firm, the pause in immigrant visa issuance is temporary and does not represent a blockage of immigration.
According to Piquet Law Firm, a law firm specializing in immigration to the United States, represented by Alexandre Piquet, it is crucial to clarify that the current pause in consular issuance of immigrant visas announced by the American government does not constitute a general suspension of immigration.
According to the firm, the measure is temporary and administrative in nature, does not represent the cancellation of ongoing processes, does not imply automatic visa denial, and does not constitute a blockage of the United States immigration system.
What is temporarily paused?
Piquet Law Firm clarifies that the measure only impacts a specific stage of the immigration process:
the final issuance of the immigrant visa at American consulates outside the United States.
This means that, even after the consular interview, the visa may not be issued immediately while the administrative review is underway. It is emphasized that this pause does not interfere with the merit analysis of the process, which continues to be evaluated normally by the competent authorities.
What Continues to Function Normally
Despite the temporary pause, the United States immigration system continues to operate for the most part. According to Piquet Law Firm, the following continue normally:
Acceptance of new immigration applications
Review of applications by US authorities
Processing of cases by the National Visa Center (NVC)
Scheduling and conducting consular interviews
In addition, the following are not affected by this measure:
Non-immigrant visas, such as tourism, study, and temporary work visas
Visas already issued, which will not be canceled
Adjustment of Status processes carried out within the United States
Issuance of green cards
Individuals with dual nationality using passports not included on the list
Administrative Measure Already Adopted at Other Times
Piquet Law Firm emphasizes that this type of administrative adjustment is not unprecedented. Similar measures have been adopted in previous periods, including during the pandemic, while the US government reviewed internal policies. After these reviews, visa issuance resumed normally, without prejudice to ongoing processes. Information and planning are fundamental.
According to Alexandre Piquet, in scenarios of administrative adjustments, decisions based on incomplete or outdated information can result in delays or inadequate strategies. Each immigration process must be evaluated individually, considering:
The type of visa
The location where the process is being conducted
The immigration strategy best suited to the applicant's profile
Short, medium, and long-term planning
Piquet Law Firm emphasizes that people who are already in the immigration process or who are considering starting a visa application should seek specialized guidance before making any decision. Individualized analysis is essential to avoid unnecessary costs or delays.
The firm continues to closely monitor updates in the immigration landscape and remains available to offer clear and strategic guidance on each case.

MIS inaugurates solo exhibition by Lucia Lang in the New Photography 2026 project
Photographer Lucia Lang inaugurates her solo exhibition at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), an institution of the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industries of the State of São Paulo, after being selected for the New Photography 2026 project. The Museum is recognized for mapping and promoting contemporary photographic production; the program includes up to six unpublished series, highlighted for their technical, aesthetic, and conceptual originality.
In the exhibition, Lucia presents the series "Régis, Where Are You?", an essay constructed from long walks through downtown São Paulo. With an attentive and sensitive eye, the artist travels through streets, alleys, and shadowy areas of the city in a search that is both urban and existential. The work stems from the almost fruitless search for someone who left to reveal a center in transformation, marked by the decrease in the flow of people, by affective emptiness, and by profound changes in the social fabric.
Curator Helena Rios points out that Lucia, walking alone through the streets of downtown, seems to feel at home. “She brings us breaths of a raw, simple, sincere beauty. A beauty that is born in her eyes, in her peculiar way of seeing the streets – and life – with the density of what is genuinely necessary and beautiful.”
Far from merely documentary records, the images construct urban landscapes associated with a state of mind. The city ceases to be a backdrop and begins to act as an active agent, influencing feelings, perceptions, and ways of being in the world. Downtown São Paulo thus emerges as a living organism, marked by despondency, memory, loss, and resistance.
A graduate in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP), Lucia Lang discovered authorial photography in 2014, after taking courses at the Pan-American School of Arts and Professional Training at the International Institute of Photography (IIF). Since then, his work has focused on investigating his surroundings as a way of understanding his own existence, exploring the relationships of affect between the individual and the environment. His photographs address themes such as belonging, displacement, memory, and permeability to the world.
Throughout his career, he has produced the essays "Vibe," "Everything Flows," focused on the urban experience, as well as "Lost Words" and "Crossing," which are more intimate and autobiographical in nature. In 2025, he released the photobook "Crossing," which was selected for the Lisbon Photobook Fair and the Ephemere Photo Fest in Tokyo.
From 2020 onwards, his work has received widespread recognition, notably being a finalist at the Miami Street Photography Festival, with a group exhibition at the History Miami Museum, in addition to the exhibitions "Fluxus," "Other Frontiers," and "Dualities," all curated by Juan Esteves. Lucia also had her portfolio selected for the 1st Latin American Women Photographers Festival, was a finalist for Paraty em Foco 2024, and now, she is part of Nova Fotografia 2026 with her first solo exhibition at MIS.
The exhibition reaffirms MIS's commitment to valuing contemporary Brazilian photography and invites the public to a sensitive and critical immersion in the city of São Paulo, observed not only as a physical space, but as an emotional, historical, and human experience.
About the program
Nova Fotografia is an annual project of MIS – an institution of the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industries of the Government of the State of São Paulo – which selects, through an open call to the public, six new photographers for a solo exhibition at the museum. The selection is the responsibility of the Programming Nucleus, with supervision and coordination by the general curatorship of MIS. Unpublished photographic series are selected, from professionals who stand out for their technical and aesthetic originality. After the exhibition period, the chosen series become part of the MIS collection.

UNSTOPPABLE An autobiographical feature film by Regina Henriques
Unstoppable, an autobiographical feature film directed by and starring Regina Henriques, is more than a film: it's a manifesto of courage, overcoming adversity, and social transformation. The work stems from Regina's own life and invites the audience to a profound reflection on the human capacity to reframe pain, rebuild paths, and start over, even in the face of the harshest adversities.
For 2026, the film will address sensitive and urgent themes for contemporary society, such as physical and domestic violence, obesity and the challenges of weight loss, the traumas and aftereffects of abuse, mental health, and the conflicts of the mind. With sensitivity and truth, the narrative also explores the experience of cancer and blindness, highlighting, above all, the overcoming of these conditions as symbols of hope, faith, and resilience.
Inspired by her own journey, Unstoppable reveals the story of a woman driven by movement, art, and a genuine commitment to transforming lives. Regina Henriques is a director, producer, dancer, actress, journalist, speaker, physical education teacher, writer, and entrepreneur—a multifaceted professional who has built her career without ever straying from her essential purpose: to serve, inspire, and provoke new beginnings.
Mother of three children—Thiago, Thalis, and Thaís—and married to Fernando Henriques, Regina balances her personal and professional life in a journey marked by challenges, achievements, and constant reinventions. A four-time champion in gymnastics and dance, she has established herself in the arts of the body, fitness, and physical education, becoming a reference in the use of movement as a tool for health, awareness, and human development.
The feature film traces her expressive work on television and stage, highlighting her five years leading the "Programa da Regina" and "Programa Bota Mais Saúde," productions focused on promoting well-being, quality of life, and transformative communication. The film also showcases her work as a director and producer at Regina Produções Artísticas, expanding her social impact through art, education, and communication. Unstoppable is a work that transforms pain into purpose and vulnerability into strength. Each chapter of the narrative reveals the power of human resilience and the capacity to generate real change—both individual and collective—promoting empathy, awareness, and a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people.

Unstoppable is not just a film.
It's an invitation to start over.
It's a story that needs to be told—and supported.
