Join us for an evening of dramatic readings, photography, and wearable sculptures. Masks of the Quotidian is a multidisciplanary exhibit inspired by interviews with Brazilian women living in Astoria, Long Island City and Woodside.
The focus of this exhibition is to explore how Brazilian women are stereotyped, what they do to break these stereotypes, what "masks" they wear in order to assimilate into American society, and how they see themselves once they've immigrated.
A collaboration between Camila Santos, Viviane Aquino and Keka Marzagao.

About the artists:
CAMILA M. SANOTS' work has appeared in the New York Times, Words Without Borders, and Minola Review. She was selected for the 2017 AWP Writer to Writer program and awarded Queens Council on the Arts New Work Grants in 2014 and 2017. She has attended the Vermont Studio Center writers’ residency program and is currently at work on a novel about Brazilian immigrants living in the United States. KEKA MARZAGAO is a Brazilian-born, photo-based artist working with issues of identity, representation, and displacement. She has studied at the International Center of Photography and Hunter College, and has shown her work at Cuchifritos Gallery (LES/NY) and CutLog Art Fair (NY). She is a recipient of the 2017 Queens Art Intervention grant for her public installation project about 1.5 generation immigrants, and is currently working on a long-term project about immigrant families.
VIVIANE AQUINO is a Brazilian costume designer and photographer. She holds a B.S. in Journalism and Public Relations from Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP). In 2013, she completed FIT’s Fashion Art and Design & Costume Design program. She lives in Astoria, Queens.
About the performers:
FABIANA MATTEDI is a Brazilian actress based in New York City. She has graduated with a BA in Acting from UFBA, Federal University of Bahia, in Brazil. She continued her artistic training in the Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) in Sydney, Australia. In addition to acting, Fabiana has also completed her dance training at The Royal Academy of Dance London. Living in New York City since 2017, Fabiana has appeared on YouTube’s Amigo Gringo and has been cast in an upcoming performance of Inside the Wild Heart, by Group.BR, a Brazilian theater company based in NYC. In 2013, Fabiana was cast in the French-Portuguese production of the film Brazil Red, directed by Sylvain Archambault. Fabiana’s latest work in NYC was in the dance ensemble production of Why Why Always, by Shaun Irons and Lauren Petty at Abrons Art Center.
YASMIN SANTANA is a Brazilian actress and multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She is currently working as a company artist at 3-Legged Dog Art and Technology Center in New York. Yasmin graduated with a BA in Performing Arts from CEFART (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and has extensive experience in theater and film. In 2016, she was part of the critics’ choice “Doomocracy”, which gave her a nomination to the International Brazilian Press Award 2017. She recently performed “The Magic Agency - Chapter 01”, by Lilac - Co at Triangle Arts Center. Yasmin is also developing her new multidisciplinary project “PueblA” alongside Female Artists from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Their first short film was screened in NY in October, 2017. She is extremely grateful to be a part of Masks of Quotidian and is proud to represent Brazilian culture abroad. See more of her work atyasminsantana.com
