BACCF ChamberNews November 2020
Dear BACCF Members and Friends,
This year has been a unique and difficult one for every person on earth. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have touched every industry and the BACCF was no different. I am so proud of all that we have been able to accomplish together despite the adversity we encountered and continue to face each day. I am especially grateful and honored to have been able to serve as President of this important organization.

I would like to thank every one of our BACCF members and the Board of Directors for the unwavering support that allowed us to maintain our traditions and achieve the goals we set together. This simply would not have been possible without the passion and dedication of our BACCF staff. These passionate individuals stepped up to transform our events and activities to digital platforms, enabling us to keep everyone safe while not giving up on our mission. The result was tremendous value delivered to our members through countless events that were remote but not lacking in any passion or enthusiasm.

And we are not done yet! I am excited about our next edition of the Leadership Series coming up December 2nd where we will learn about Cybersecurity with a special panel of experts from FedEx, Microsoft and US Claro. The annual workshop with Choaib Paiva is also around the corner on December 10th, as well as another edition of the Leadership Series, which will be the first one ever sponsored by Boeing.

It has been a privilege to serve in this role as a leader for an organization that I admire so dearly. I am looking forward to seeing the new heights that the BACCF will reach in the coming year and what new creative ideas will be brought forward. Join us on December 9th at 12:00PM for the BACCF 2021 Elections and Annual Meeting to find out who will be elected for the 2021 Board of Directors to carry on our legacy. Plans for the upcoming year will be outlined in that session and we welcome our members’ suggestions so that we can continue elevating this Chamber and unlocking its potential.

I wish you the best with your families throughout the upcoming holiday season and I hope you stay safe. I know that there are better days ahead and we will be forever grateful for the things we took for granted before the pandemic began.

Take care,
Gui Gatti

ESG in Brazil: Developments and Prospects
Thursday, November 5th
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Companies and financial institutions are increasingly looking at ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) to reduce risks and increase performance in the long-term scenario. Prior to COVID-19, there was already a meaningful focus on ESG investing. The pandemic could prove a major turning point for ESG, as sustainable funds outperformed the traditional market for the year. The webinar will serve to discuss ESG practices and metrics already adopted by companies and financial institutions before and during COVID-19, as well new market trends in sustainable investing.

PHILIP HEARSEY

Eternity

November 9th 2020 - January 29th 2021

ONLINE VIEWING with ARTNET

Born in 1946, Hampshire, UK
Lives and works in Longtown, Herfordshire, UK

Philip Hearsey is an experienced British sculptor who has exhibited his work throughout the UK but also all over the world. He specializes in sand casting to make sculptures that engage the quality of bronze as a noble material in its own right. Casting in sand moulds is a simple and ancient method far removed from the sophisticated lost wax operation used by most art foundries. The sand casting process is relentless and unforgiving – the foundry is no place for a delicate original. It denies a complexity of form that imposes a disciplinary and enriching simplicity. Color is achieved in many ways. The most common and widely used method is to oxidize (patinate) the bronze by employing the same chemical reaction that occurs in nature, but using a combination of mild heat and stronger solutions to achieve a faster result. Patination can be enhanced by the application of a transparent colorwash that maintains the inimitable variegated effects that are possible with oxidization, whilst producing a more vivid finish. The most usual colorwash is acrylic, but oil-bound washes or colored waxes are sometimes used. Coloring can also be achieved by painting alone and often this technique is utilized on part of a sculpture in combination with patination. Painting allows a greater range of colors than patination alone. All coloring is finished and protected by a marine grade lacquer and/or wax.

Philip lives and works on the Welsh borders of Herefordshire – a beautiful place, still remote and largely unaltered, landlocked and very slow in change. This is in sharp contrast to the coast that he also loves, where everything changes twice a day with the rise and fall of each tide.
