Galeria Frente Launches Book on the Exhibition “Niobe Xandó: The Unusual”

The book immortalizes an exhibition held 16 years after the artist’s death, featuring dozens of works spanning more than five decades of her artistic career. On view since May 23, the exhibition “Niobe Xandó: The Unusual” presents approximately 70 works, including paintings, drawings, screen prints, objects from different periods, and several historical documents. The exhibition can now be revisited through the book of the same name, which will be launched on August 15 at the gallery. Curated by Maria Alice Milliet, the works seek to convey the unique dimension of this artist’s oeuvre, and the exhibition will be extended through August 29. The book launch program will also include a guided tour of the exhibition led by curator Maria Alice Milliet, as well as the presentation of a musical composition inspired by the artist’s works, created by musician Anna Maria Kieffer in partnership with composer Vanderlei Lucentini.

Known for her unique style, self-taught artist Niobe Xandó (1915–2010) was one of the most important names in the Brazilian art scene. Born in Campos Novos, São Paulo, she was a multifaceted artist who explored painting, collage, drawing, sculpture, and other forms of artistic expression. Her works are marked by a strong ancestral mysticism, in which elements of African and Indigenous cultures are reflected in masks and totems. Her figurative production should also be highlighted, as it evolved into a dreamlike and fantastical universe.

In her curatorial text, Maria Alice Milliet emphasizes Niobe’s artistic power: “Few artists, outside schools or artistic trends, create a language of their own. This is the case with Niobe Xandó, particularly in relation to her calligraphic drawing and the forms inspired by archaic traditions, with Amerindian and African accents that lead into lettering and mechanistic imagery. A pioneer in incorporating elements from Indigenous and Black cultures into contemporary art, even throughout the different phases of her career, her work is never banal. From the exotic flowers of the early period of her painting to the lyrical geometricism of the 1980s, her work never ceases to surprise through the unusual nature of its themes and the artistic solutions she adopts.”

“Niobe Xandó: The Unusual” marks the 15th exhibition presented by Galeria Frente, reaffirming its commitment to bringing to the public artists whose historical relevance and aesthetic power continue to call for new perspectives. “Recovering and presenting Niobe Xandó’s work once again is, in this sense, more than an act of revision: it is an invitation to discovery,” states the gallery’s director, Acacio Lisboa.

The New York Times, August 1965: Johnson Signs Voting Rights Bill, Orders Immediate Enforcement

Sula, on this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the landmark Voting Rights Act into law — transforming what voting access and political representation looked like in the United States.

For generations, we counted on the Voting Rights Act to safeguard the voting power of minority communities. With a ban on literacy tests, protections against racial gerrymandering and vote dilution, and a mechanism to enforce those protections, this legislation helped guarantee equal representation.

Today, as we regroup after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, we must remember the progress that was made and what it took to win it. We must be as determined and as strategic as our civil rights forebears. Democracy depends on it.

When you make a donation to Redistricting Action, you help fund the urgent fight that’s needed to protect voting rights, drive grassroots pressure to support fair maps, and build the political power to end this redistricting crisis once and for all.

On that very day 61 years ago, anti-democracy forces didn’t wave a white flag. They started a decades-long fight to undo that hard-fought progress, because fairness threatened their power. They chipped away and focused on finding and funding legal cases – and judges – that would dismantle the Voting Rights Act.

Look, I won’t sugarcoat it: The last year has been rough

And yet this grassroots movement has not given up.

Together, we know the American people don’t want racial or partisan gerrymanders. They don’t want hurdles blocking the ballot box. What they want is representation that actually represents all of us .

We’ve stopped anti-democracy forces from gerrymandering in states like Indiana and South Carolina. Our movement has taken to courtrooms to push back against other unconstitutional redraws and efforts to undermine the census. Supporters have sent thousands of messages to elected officials, shown up at their legislatures, and signed up to be poll watchers this fall.

On this historic anniversary, let's show that nothing will stop us from keeping up the fight. Rush in a donation to ensure that we can meet this moment and chart a path forward that defends our voting rights and preserves our democracy.

Thank you,

AURA SUMMIT 2026: SWITZERLAND HOSTS AN INTERNATIONAL GATHERING UNITING CULTURE, ART, BUSINESS AND CIVIL DIPLOMACY

On September 25, 26 and 27, 2026, Switzerland will become the setting for the Aura Summit, an international gathering designed to bring together culture, art, business, and civil diplomacy in a carefully structured environment focused on promoting strategic connections, qualified dialogue, and new opportunities for international cooperation. Conceived and led by CEO Carolina Araujo, the event will bring together representatives of civil society, entrepreneurs, investors, diplomats, visual artists, distinguished personalities, and institutions in an experience that aims to go beyond traditional corporate and social gatherings, creating an international platform for relationships, positioning, and the development of new connections.

The Aura Summit is organized by Aura Positioning Group, a company specialized in strategic brand positioning, premium events, and high-end experiences, with its work focused on building authority, reputation, and strategic connections capable of generating opportunities and lasting legacies. The organization’s vision is based on the belief that the right positioning, combined with the right connections, has the power to transform individuals, organizations, and markets. Within this context, the Aura Summit represents an international platform that brings together different sectors of society in the same environment, connecting entrepreneurs, investors, diplomats, artists, and institutional representatives so that culture, business, and diplomacy can engage in dialogue and create long-term relationships.

The choice of Switzerland as the host country is directly connected to the nation’s international relevance, recognized for its stability, tradition, discretion, excellence, and ability to bring together different cultures and markets. For the Aura Summit, being held in Switzerland also represents an opportunity to provide guests with an immersive experience in an international environment marked by tradition, innovation, cultural heritage, and exceptional standards of service, creating the ideal setting for meetings that may result in new partnerships, exchanges, and projects.

The program will begin with an experience dedicated to the tradition of Swiss haute horlogerie, including a visit to Beyer, the renowned watchmaking house established in Zurich and recognized for its historic legacy in the sector. The experience will allow participants to discover firsthand part of the tradition that has made Swiss watchmaking a global reference, while also providing moments of connection and relationship-building among Aura Summit guests. The program has been designed so that each experience contributes not only to the participants’ cultural knowledge but also to creating environments that encourage dialogue and closer relationships among different areas of expertise.

On the second day, participants will experience a cultural immersion in Lucerne, a historic city surrounded by the Alpine mountains and recognized for its beauty, heritage, and cultural significance. The program will include a visit to the historic center and experiences connected to Swiss culture and gastronomy, including the tasting and presentation of traditional Swiss cheeses and chocolates. More than a tourism itinerary, the proposal is to offer participants a cultural experience capable of bringing people, stories, and different perspectives together, strengthening the Aura Summit’s belief that culture is also a powerful tool for international connection.

The third day will be marked by the grand gathering and closing evening of the Aura Summit, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, diplomats, visual artists, distinguished personalities, and representatives of civil society in a special program centered on business, leadership, innovation, culture, and civil diplomacy. The evening will begin with a classical music concert, followed by lectures and content sessions focused on the development of ideas, leadership, business opportunities, and the creation of strategic relationships. During the ceremony, visual artists will participate in a live creation experience, producing artworks in front of the guests and transforming art into an essential part of the event experience.

Another highlight will be dedicated to civil diplomacy, a concept that occupies a central position in the Aura Summit’s vision by recognizing dialogue between civil society, companies, institutions, culture, and different international actors as a tool for building bridges and creating new possibilities for cooperation. Civil diplomacy will be presented as an instrument capable of expanding dialogue, strengthening institutional relationships, and bringing people and organizations together around common goals, highlighting the important role of civil society in building international connections.

Throughout the program, the Aura Summit aims to provide not only exclusive content and unique experiences, but above all an environment where people capable of influencing, entrepreneurship, creating, investing, representing institutions, and developing new projects can connect. The presence of visual artists, entrepreneurs, investors, diplomats, distinguished personalities, and representatives of civil society expands the diversity of the gathering and creates opportunities for different knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to meet.

For Carolina Araujo, CEO responsible for the realization of the Aura Summit, the initiative represents an opportunity to transform encounters into relationships and relationships into concrete possibilities for cooperation. The proposal is to bring together people who share the desire to build international connections, expand horizons, and participate in an environment where culture, art, business, and civil diplomacy can coexist strategically and generate new perspectives.

The closing of the event will be marked by a celebration dinner, bringing participants together in an atmosphere of networking and fellowship, celebrating the connections built throughout the three-day program. The intention is that each guest leaves the Aura Summit not only with memories of an international experience, but also with new contacts, initiated dialogues, partnership possibilities, and an expanded relationship network.

More than an event, the Aura Summit aims to establish itself as an international platform for positioning, relationships, and strategic connections, based on the understanding that great opportunities emerge when people, institutions, and purposes meet in the right environment. By choosing Switzerland as its setting and bringing together different sectors of society through a program that combines cultural experiences, art, business, leadership, innovation, and civil diplomacy, the gathering seeks to create an international experience capable of connecting worlds, encouraging new dialogues, and contributing to the construction of relationships that generate impact and legacy.

On September 25, 26 and 27, Switzerland will therefore host an experience designed to connect people and purposes. The Aura Summit arrives with the mission of building a bridge between culture, art, business, and civil diplomacy, bringing together personalities and institutions around a shared vision: the creation of qualified international connections capable of opening new paths for cooperation, development, relationships, and transformation.
