Tribute to Monica Guimarães Coimbra

(1954-2025)

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, we share with deep sorrow the passing of Monica (Moni) Guimarães Coimbra, on October 28, 2025 at the age of 71.  Ms. Coimbra was a cherished friend of the Chamber and a devoted supporter of our Person of the Year Awards Gala Dinner.

Born on October 3, 1954 in Santos, Brazil, Ms. Coimbra pursued studies in pedagogy, dedicating herself to the art and science of education.  She married Sérgio Coimbra, former President & CEO of Cia. Cacique de Café Solúvel and the Chamber’s 1990 Brazilian Person of the Year honoree.  She was also the daughter-in-law of the late Horácio Sabino Coimbra, Founder of Cia. Cacique and our 1972 Brazilian Person of the Year awardee – the first from the private sector.

Cia. Cacique was a founding member of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce and maintained an active membership for more than 55 years.  Ms. Coimbra’s constant presence at the Person of the Year Awards Gala Dinner and parallel events left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her warmth, grace, and joyful spirit touched everyone she met – qualities emblematic of the Coimbra family, whose contributions have enriched the Chamber since its inception.

Ms. Coimbra is survived by her beloved husband Sérgio; sons João Paulo, Rafael, and Rodrigo; daughters-in-law; siblings; and nine grandchildren.  Her kindness, elegance, and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

🚨URGENT VOTER SUPPRESSION UPDATE🚨
Nearly HALF A MILLION registered voters were WIPED from Georgia’s voter rolls

Team – this is AWFUL: This summer, Georgia purged over 470,000 registered voters from its voter rolls.

Some of these voters had their registration cancelled just because they haven’t voted in the past few elections or don’t have reliable mail delivery to update or confirm their address. This is a page right out of the Republican voter suppression playbook!

We need to fight back against Republican attempts to SILENCE Black voters in Georgia. Folks, tomorrow is Election Day, and we endorsed 13 candidates in Georgia who will fight to protect our fundamental rights at every level of government.

Will you rush $5 or more to directly support our endorsed candidates in Georgia? They need last-minute support to turn out as many voters as possible so we can build Black political power. Chip in now >>

Listen, the stakes couldn’t be any higher. We’re up against an authoritarian government that rejects Black history, demolishes DEI, and cuts life-saving programs like Social Security and Medicaid.

But we have the power to fight back – by building a more representative government at every level and electing candidates who will fight to protect our Constitutional rights. That starts at the local level, and we can make a big impact this year in Georgia.

Election Day is TOMORROW, folks – chip in $5 to directly support our endorsed candidates in Georgia and help turn out voters >>
