We’ve had a busy start to our month; here’s what we’re celebrating lately.
➡️ Virginia ushered in a wave of legislators committed to transparency and fairness in their service to the people after more fair maps were put in place. ➡️ In a huge win for democracy and fairness in Pennsylvania, voters rejected a candidate for state supreme court who denied the 2020 election results and instead elected a fair and careful judge. ➡️ Ohio Issue 1 passed! This win shows the power in numbers that Ohioians have shown, and they’ve let their lawmakers know that they want their reproductive rights and freedoms. |
Our collective efforts as a team produce results that are democracy-saving, and we couldn't do it without you. When we’re met with lawmakers who don’t support fair maps, reproductive rights, or basic freedoms within our democracy, there is no time to back down. And the results from just last week show exactly that. Our strength as a movement is powerful, and together, we’re continuing our commitment until we have fair maps nationwide.

We’ve seen lawmakers challenge our democracy, and we’ve seen what happens when people like you respond; we win. And our progress will stand protected as we continue onto the next challenge within our democracy. Pro-democracy advocates and policies are crucial to our next steps in our mission for fairness. Join us as we push back against anti-democracy tactics nationwide!

Art
Exhibition by Brazilian fine artViviane Fuentes in Paris recreates the
atmosphere of the iconic Studio 54 nightclub, with Greta Jones, Madonna and
Mick Jagger portrayed in "baroque-pop" canvases.
On November 9th,
Brazilian multi-artist Viviane Fuentes, based in France for 13 years old, opens
the exhibition “Autre Moi” in Paris, at the Galerie au Médicis, in
Saint-Germain-des-Prés, curated by Inhwa Jeon
“Autre moi” (Other ego)
presents five creations by Viviane Fuentes. These are acrylic works in which
she recreates the pop atmosphere of the iconic New York nightclub Studio 54,
Andy Warhol's favorite.
Grace Jones, Madonna,
Mick Jagger, Manhattan nightclub regulars, are transformed into “baroque-pop
chimeras”, portrayed in nonsense universes with Louis XIV frames.
In the acrylic
canvases, Madonna's head is decorated with fake locks of hair, snakes in her
mouth and her spine is like a Gothic church vault. Grace Jones à la Marie
Antoinette parties in the Dauphin's room at the Palace of Versailles, while
Mick Jagger floats around bubbly and cybernetic.
One of the works is
unpublished: “Une Couronne Pour Basquiat”. In this case, the artist renovated
and customized two frames, the "crown" for the portrait of one of her
favorite contemporary artists. Front and back, this work, according to Viviane,
is an object of art that pays homage to the famous new artist- yorker.
Some of these works
will also be part of the solo exhibition, “Mona Lisa et les Bananes”, with a
vernissage on December 2, in the “Séchoir à Peaux” exhibition room, in the
beautiful Chevreuse Valley, in which a black Mona Lisa – and a bunch of
bananas! – will pose next to David Bowie, for example.
By the way, “Mona Lisa
et les Bananes” is a “matrioska” exhibition, that is, it unfolds into two
exhibitions integrated into the main exhibition: “deviated bananas” and
“chimeras 54 baroque-pop” – which features portraits of celebrities who
frequented Studio 54.
Also in November,
Viviane Fuentes shows her work in an artistic collaboration in the chocolate
atelier of renowned French maître pâtissier chocolatier Régis Bouet, in
Marcoussis. There, the charming paintings from the "J’ai la banane"
collection will further embellish this intimate studio, with the aroma of
cocoa.
In other words, there
are three opportunities to check out the work of Viviane Fuentes, who has been
gaining more and more prominence on the Parisian scene.
"Viviane Fuentes
achieved something that few artists achieve: an identity. When you look at her
visual arts work as a whole, you see a signature, a unity. It's as if you saw
Viviane's DNA", says cartoonist Adão Iturrusgarai.
For the Brazilian
public who wants to follow the exhibitions, Viviane Fuentes will do three live
broadcasts on her Instagram @veepthearts
About Viviane Fuentes
Actress, writer,
photographer, cultural projects manger, Viviane Fontes took up the visual
arts only in 2020. Recently her work Prince-Le-Coq was sold by gallerist
Valentina Druart to an art collector who owns more than 800 works of art, among
they are one by the English surrealist artist Lenora Carrington.
The multi-artist
improves her acrylic technique (marker pens) on canvas and her portraits are
constantly evolving. For Viviane Fuentes, all means and tools are important and
possible to tell a good story.
In 2023, she began her
artistic year in February, in Marcoussis, with 4 exhibitions, which were “Un
Brin de Folie” (Médiathèque Léo Ferré) et “J’ai la banane” (Galerie Ephémère,
in Palaiseau). In March, she opened “Mona Lisa et les Bananes” at the Château
de Belleville, in Gif-sur-Yvette and ended the first semester in Paris, with
the exhibition POP (Espace Ysmaïllof).
Now, in November and
December, she ends the year in style, exhibiting her works in three spaces.
Depositions
"I met Veep
(Viviane Fuentes), this incredible woman on a night where the writer emerged, I
was enchanted! Soon afterwards I met the lion mother, welcoming, strong,
loving, and I was surprised to see the birth of this very genuine artist, with
unmistakable features . Her recreations, of the faces that made and make
history (“Un Brin de Folie”), provoke a charming, curious strangeness in us. It
is impossible not to recognize the soul of Veep in her creations. She is her,
whole in everything she materializes ."
AMANDA ACOSTA (singer
and actress)
"Viviane Fuentes
brings her Brazilian references in portraits with a lot of personality,
empowering historical women who refer to pop culture, always with that touch of
Brazilianness and tropicality."
