Labor Market Continues to Strengthen

Overview: The labor market reports were the only major economic data released over the past week, and they came in right on target. As a result, mortgage rates ended the week with little change.

There were no surprises to be found in Friday's important Employment Report. The economy gained 157,000 jobs in July, below the consensus forecast of 190,000. However, upward revisions added 59,000 jobs to the results for prior months, offsetting the shortfall. The economy has gained an average of 215,000 jobs per month so far this year, even higher than the strong pace of 184,000 seen over the same period last year. The unemployment rate decreased from 4.0% to 3.9%, as expected. Average hourly earnings, which is viewed as an indicator of wage growth, also matched expectations. They were 2.7% higher than a year ago, the same annual rate of increase as last month.

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), which helps the Fed and investors round out their views of the strength of the labor market, revealed that there were 6.66 million job openings in June. This was close to the record high figure seen in April and exceeds the 6.56 million people who reported that they were looking for work that month. A high level of workers also willingly left their jobs. This is viewed as a sign of labor market strength, since people usually quit only if they believe they can find better jobs.

Week Ahead
Looking ahead, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will come out on Friday. CPI is a widely followed monthly inflation report that looks at the price change for goods and services. The Retail Sales report will be released on August 15. Consumer spending accounts for about 70% of all economic activity in the U.S., and the retail sales data is a key indicator of growth. The Industrial Production and Capacity Utilization report, another important indicator of economic growth, will also come out on August 15.

Remember the tax scam that the Trump administration and their Republican allies jammed through late last year? The one that was supposed to "help working families," and "provide relief for the middle class"?

The evidence is here -- and it proves what we've known all along. Here's a chart that shows exactly who is benefiting from this travesty:

That's right: This deficit-busting tax law hasn't done a thing to lift real wages for workers. All it's done is deliver massive gains to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy executives who run them.

That's right: This deficit-busting tax law hasn't done a thing to lift real wages for workers. All it's done is deliver massive gains to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy executives who run them.

It's a scam -- and as more and more Americans catch on, Republicans are starting to distance themselves from what they called a "victory" only months ago.

We won't forget, and it's time to hold representatives accountable for their support of this bill. Join Team '18 today, and get to work in this critical push:

Still wondering how best to take advantage of Instagram Stories? They are very powerful because they come up at the top of your followers feeds as the little circles at the very top of everyone’s Instagram. With Instagram Highlights, you can now curate your stories and your Instagram homepage to have your fans see the moments that matter.
musicians-guide-to-instagram-2-768x768

Instagram Stories?

Instagram Stories are a feature that allows you to make short posts about your day that are only visible for 24 hours (just like Snapchat). With this, you can post multiple times a day without flooding your feed and potentially hurting your engagement. You can post simple photos of you going about your day, record short informal videos, GIFS, visualize highlights from your brand – your bio, your band members, articles that have been written about you, playlist adds, gigs coming up or guitar solos – anything that is relevant can be organized into their own separate Highlight categories. You can also use Boomerang to make looped posts. Once you reach 10k followers, and/or are verified, you can also add a link that the viewer will have to swipe up to open. This can be used to promote a lot of different things – you can ask your followers to follow your other socials, send out a link to buy or stream your new song, etc. Instagram Stories are a good way to engage with your followers more frequently and build a stronger relationship with them.

Instagram Highlights

Since Instagram stories are only live for 24 hours, Instagram has implemented a feature this past year that allows you to showcase certain stories that you deem to be most important directly on your page with Highlights! These have become just another way to add some more flair and personality to your page, and allow your Stories to stay up forever (or for as long as you'd like them to). Taking advantage of this feature will allow you to keep interesting and important information from your Stories present and easily accessible to your followers.
