Today, the administration announced their replacement for President Obama's Clean Power Plan -- and it is nothing more than a Dirty Power Scam.

This is the latest example of this administration and their allies in Congress failing us on climate change.

The Clean Power Plan would save lives, preventing heart attacks and asthma attacks in kids. It would save American families money on their power bills, and it would build on the momentum of the clean energy economy.

With the impacts of climate change we are seeing right now -- more frequent and severe droughts, wildfires, storms, and floods -- policy-makers in Washington should be strengthening common-sense policies like these, not weakening them.

Instead, our climate progress is under attack across the board. Despite three Supreme Court rulings stating the EPA's responsibility under the Clean Air Act to protect Americans from carbon pollution, the Trump administration has released a plan that puts corporate polluters first, and Americans' lives and well-being last.

That's why, on September 8, OFA supporters nationwide are taking action in our local communities to defend our climate. Find an event near you and RSVP today.

Switching to cleaner, safer sources of power, and making our homes and businesses more efficient will make our communities healthier. It will save lives. It will boost our economy. And it will forestall the worst impacts of climate change. But this administration is determined to ignore the solutions that are right in front of us, no matter what the cost.

Here's the truth: This administration's own estimates say that their plan will significantly increase our carbon pollution, and will cost up to 1,400 American lives annually.

We can't wait for Washington, D.C., to step up and solve this problem. We have to build our own line of defense. That's why OFA and our partners are working together to support local leaders in the battle against climate change.

Join us as we fight for local climate action on September 8:

BRAZIL'S LABOR REFORM - ONE YEAR LATER: HOW THE LAW IS RESHAPING THE LABOR MARKET

September 11, 2018Time: 8:00 AM to 10:00 AMLocation: Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., New York, New York

Image result for BRAZIL'S LABOR REFORM - ONE YEAR LATER: HOW THE LAW IS RESHAPING THE LABOR MARKETIn July of 2017 Congress passed the deepest reform to Brazil’s labor laws in generations.  The law modernized the legal framework governing employee relations, one of the Temer administration’s major reforms intended to re-vitalize the economy. Now fully implemented, what has been the effect?  How has the law altered employer/employee relations, how have the courts and society reacted, and what can be anticipated regarding the law’s long-term impact on Brazilian productivity?

Join us for an expert panel to discuss these and other key topics related to the law.  Minister Alexandre de Souza Agra Belmonte of the Superior Court of Labor will lead the discussion, with his perspective as a judge on Brazil’s highest court for labor litigation. Joining Minister Belmonte will be Rodrigo Soares, Lemann professor of Brazilian Public Policy at Columbia, who has long studied the impact of labor on development economics.  Completing the panel will be labor attorney Marilia Minicucci who will report on the key changes observed in labor practices as a consequence of the law.

The panel will be moderated by Renata Neeser, a Brazilian attorney based in New York, with a depth of experience in both New York and Brazilian labor and employment law.

Sponsored by Littler Mendelson, this event has been a pre-approved for 1.5 hours of New York CLE credits. All other states will be applied for upon request.

      About Jacob do Bandolim

Jacob do Bandolim born Jacob Pick Bittencourt (February 14, 1918 – August 13, 1969) was a Brazilian composer and musician. Born to a Brazilian-Jewish mother and a gentile father in Rio de Janeiro, his stage name means "Mandolin Jacob", referring to his instrument he played. A perfectionist, Jacob was able to achieve with his band Época de Ouro the highest levels of quality. Jacob hated the stereotype of the "disheveled, drunk folk musician" and required commitment and impeccable dress from his musicians who, like himself, all held "day jobs." Jacob worked as a pharmacist, insurance salesman, street vendor, and finally notary public, to support himself while also working "full time" as a musician. In addition to his virtuoso playing, he is famous for his many choro compositions, more than 103 tunes, which range from the lyrical melodies of "Noites Cariocas" ("Carioca Nights"), Receita de Samba and "Dôce de Coco" to the aggressively jazzy "Assanhado", which is reminiscent of bebop. He also researched and attempted to preserve the older choro tradition, as well as that of other Brazilian music styles.
About Choro
Brazilian Choro has roots jazz, and is considered Brazil’s first “urban pop” music. There are over 30 different types of rhythms in Brazilian Music. By presenting the diversity of our rhythms, we hope to encourage diverse musicians, music students, adults, and children to engage in creating music with a dynamic communicative style that is energetic, fun, creative, and very inspiring!
Check out videos and photos from previous concerts.
