TORQUATO NETO:
EVERY HOUR OF THE END

image.png

A documentary by Eduardo Ades and Marcus Fernando
(Torquato Neto: Every hour of the end, Eduardo Ades and Marcus Fernando, 2017, Brazil, 88 min)

Torquato Neto (1944-1972) lived passionately. Engaged on multiple fronts - in film, music, and journalism - this poet from the far-northeastern state of Piauí partook faithfully in the revolution that changed the course of Brazilian culture in the 1960s and 70s. Neto was one of the most active thinkers and lyricists of the Tropicália movement, a partner of Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Jards Macalé. Through producing and partaking in marginal art forms, Neto radicalized his performances and cultural criticisms alongside such figures of Brazil’s counter-culture as Waly Salomão, Ivan Cardoso, and Hélio Oiticica.

Organizing for Action

With Democrat TJ Cox's victory in CA-21 made official on Thursday, we have a close-to-final look at our impact in these midterms:

We won 20 of our 27 priority U.S. House races. We helped pass 12 of the 15 ballot initiatives we worked on -- extending Medicaid to thousands of people, restoring voting rights to millions, curbing gerrymandering, and passing safer gun laws.

And we elected leaders across the country who will stand up for fairer districts.

This week, we want to hear from you: What's the best way to keep growing this movement?

There are two ways you can help:
  1. Join our monthly volunteer call tomorrow night. We'll talk through updates on critical issues, and ways you can take action in the next few months.

  2. Take the OFA Volunteer Survey. Did you get involved with OFA during the midterms? Why or why not? What fires you up for 2019, and how can we best support you? Your feedback will make sure we're providing the training and resources you need to be effective organizers in your communities.
Thank you for being a part of this. Your commitment and passion to make change is what keeps our work moving forward -- and we appreciate you taking the time to help us learn and grow.

For over five decades, Maiolino has drawn from her personal history as an artist, migrant, and mother, to produce works that relentlessly challenge accepted notions of desire, language, and sexuality while celebrating the viscerality of embodied experience. On view from 14 November through 22 December 2018, the exhibition highlights multiple dimensions within Maiolino’s oeuvre, presenting more than fifty of the artist’s sculptures, drawings, paintings, photographs, and videos, as well as a new site-specific installation that continues her iconic Terra Modelada (Modeled Earth) series.
