All On The Line
Hey y'all -- The All On The Line crew from HQ is headed to New Hampshire and Florida this weekend. It's the first time we're all coming together as a team! For the past few months, I've just been a name in your inbox and folks like you have just been voices on our volunteer calls. But now, the AOTL team is finally putting the finishing touches on the "welcome packets" and getting ready to hit the road!

The fun starts this weekend -- but we still have 19 more trainings in communities across the country. That's a lot of snacks, my friends. As we finalize all the snacks, supplies, and welcome packets, can we count on you to make a donation to our training fund? We've received 944 contributions to the fund so far and I'd really love to get us to 1,000 this weekend.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.

I am truly pumped to meet the people who make the work work -- we don't have an organizing program without those folks. Y'all are the grassroots movement that makes change possible.

And while I'm thankful for President Obama launching Redistricting U, I know this raining initiative will only be a success because of the support of grassroots supporters who have chipped in to make it happen.

Can I count on you to make a donation to the AOTL Training Fund before our first (ever!) Redistricting U trainings begin this weekend?

Whether you're new to the movement or have been organizing for change for years, you are essential to this fight and I'm proud to be part of this team with you.

Thanks for your support,
-- Mallory and the AOTL Team

Hey team -- Look, I'm not going to lie. When President Obama announced Redistricting U last month, you better believe I called my mom to celebrate and then immediately reshared all his social media posts. To say I was excited would be an understatement. But honestly, I'm even more excited to finally meet with AOTL volunteers this weekend!

CLIENT ALERT

Hunton Andrews Kurth Client Alert

What Happened: On September 19, 2019, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit held that a party to a private arbitration being conducted overseas may obtain discovery from a federal court in aid of that arbitration pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1782.
The Bottom Line: The ruling confirms a circuit split with the Second and Fifth Circuits, each of which had held that the statute does not extend to private arbitrations. The opinion is also a reminder of the potential reach of § 1782 proceedings as well as the unsettled issues remaining regarding the statute’s application.

The News & Observer: New maps would still give GOP disproportionate power in NC legislature, analysts say.

Sula,

I wanted to make sure you saw this headline. Despite everything that's happened in North Carolina -- a court ordering that the maps be redrawn, the process happening in public view, folks stepping up to voice their concerns -- experts say the new maps STILL favor Republicans.

Why won't map manipulators get the point? The American people are demanding fair districts. We're building the movement to make sure elected officials across the country get the message -- will you chip in to support our work?

Although this is not the end of the fight in North Carolina -- the maps will now be reviewed by the court -- this is what we're up against. Even with intervention from the courts and loud calls for transparency, too many politicians will put their own partisan interests ahead of the people. They will manipulate maps and pick their voters. Now they're just doing it in plain view instead of behind closed doors.

As Kelly said, this North Carolina process could be a blueprint for the next few years. We need to build up our capacity NOW to make sure we can hold politicians accountable and make them aware that there will be a strong grassroots response when they try to manipulate maps.

Can you chip in a few dollars to the AOTL training fund? We're committed to empowering folks to be leaders in the fight for fair maps -- but we need your support.

Thanks for your help,
-- Patrick
