Brazil Summit Webinar Tuesday, April 19th 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time - U.S. and Canada) The Brazil Summit is one of the most important events in the Chamber’s annual calendar. The discussion provided by the conference this year will highlight important issues that will play a major role in helping Brazil to overcome the challenges it faces today. As we advance in Brazil’s 2022 election year, hope for progress on the policy front fades. In fact, further electioneering deterioration is to be expected, as the current fracas over the leadership of Petrobras illustrates. Growth in 2022 will be mediocre, near-zero—as it has been, on average, over the last decade. And the new administration in 2023 is likely to face an uphill battle to keep the economy from a recession. The international backdrop has deteriorated with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as with the increase in inflation in the United States and Europe. Economic authorities face these external developments – although some of them work in Brazil’s favor, such as higher commodity prices – as well as internal developments. The Central Bank of Brazil anticipated the increase in inflation and started tightening monetary policy before any other major central bank. Contractionary monetary policy is already binding for growth, while inflation has peaked but stays high. Brazil’s fiscal performance – boosted by inflation – has outperformed across emerging markets and developed markets, but deep structural problems and relentless pressure on spending remain. How will politics and policies shape up in coming years to reap (or not) the benefits of yet another substantial boost from commodities? USO Supporter, as Russian attacks continue throughout Ukraine, I wanted to provide a personal update to our top military supporters, including you.

As you know, thousands of U.S. troops have been deployed or repositioned to support our NATO allies in Eastern Europe. They’re facing harsh weather and dangerous conditions as the situation on the ground rapidly changes. Many more service members here in the United States and throughout Europe remain on high alert and could be deployed at any moment.

The services and support the USO provides are more important than ever during times of crisis and uncertainty. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we are there by our service members’ sides every step of the way throughout their service to our country, including deployment. Having this constant source of support through every stage of their journey provides immense comfort to troops and their families during otherwise stressful moments.

Since this crisis began, we have distributed more than 28,000 USO Care Packages filled with travel-sized toiletries, snacks, hand warmers and more. We opened a brand new USO Center in just 48 hours. USO personnel are on the ground to ensure our service members have the support that they need. And just last month, military supporters like you helped us fund more than 8,900 additional care packages and other essentials for service members around the world.

Many service members received orders to deploy without personal communications devices, leaving them with no way to contact their loved ones, but thanks to you, they can contact them. Across Germany, Poland and Romania, the USO is providing communication support for service members to stay connected to home.

For that, and for everything else you do to support our heroes in uniform, we are so grateful. Thank you so much for being a dedicated supporter that America’s troops can count on through thick and thin.
