| | CRITICAL UPDATE: President Biden just signed a major bill into law to save the U.S. Postal Service! | | This is incredible news, friend! A majority of Democrats approve of President Biden – but after this massive victory, we need to update our data, and your response is still missing: | Do you approve of President Biden? | | Response missing from sula_costa@yahoo.com | Midnight deadline | | Friend – Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a Trump megadonor, has been doing everything in his power to sabotage the U.S. Postal Service, from slowing down delivery times for crucial things like prescription drugs to threatening our ability to vote by mail. | That's why this is such a HUGE victory: President Biden just signed a bill to stabilize USPS finances, block extreme service cuts, assist postal workers, and more. We've finally taken a crucial step toward rebuilding this vital federal agency after years of harmful Trump-era policies. | But at the same time, Mitch McConnell and the GOP are 100% focused on attacking President Biden and sabotaging his agenda – all to tear Democrats down and retake Senate control in November. | Before midnight, we need another 27 people in your area to speak out in support of President Biden – but according to our records, your response is still missing. Please, friend, tell us now: | Do you approve of President Biden? | |

Less than seven months until the 2022 midterm elections →Sula -- In just a few months, voters will head to the ballot box and determine who controls the U.S. House.
We are working around the clock to ensure that voters can pick politicians who accurately represent them without interference from gerrymandered maps and voter suppression.
Will you make a one-time donation of $25? That’s just $5 dollars for each House seat Republicans need to take the majority. You can also contribute any amount below!
Florida, New Hampshire, and Missouri are the three states that still haven’t enacted maps yet AND there are 27 states where Republicans are trying to pass voter suppression laws -- all in an effort to give their party an unfair advantage in the midterm elections.
As A.G. Holder has said, “We know Republicans have proven time and again that they will do whatever it takes in these states and elsewhere to preserve partisan gerrymandering so they can lock in their own power.”
We know that if gerrymandered maps and voter suppression persist, conservative politicians will be better well-positioned to flip the five seats needed to gain a majority in 2022.
Can we count on you to help us in the fight against map manipulation and voter suppression? Your contribution will help us hold conservative map drawers accountable before the midterm elections and beyond.

Sula – We hate to say it, but ultra-conservative justices are damaging the legitimacy of the Supreme Court.
You may have heard of the term “shadow docket,” which SCOTUS is supposed to use for emergency rulings, but through which it has been ruling on everything from redistricting to abortion rights to environmental protections. According to The Washington Post: “Justice Elena Kagan… said her conservative colleagues were turning what critics have called the court’s ‘shadow docket’ into something it was never intended to be. The majority’s order ‘renders the Court’s emergency docket not for emergencies at all,’ Kagan wrote. ‘The docket becomes only another place for merits determinations – except made without full briefing and argument.’” Or as Slate put it, “The court routinely flouts its own procedural standards to change substantive law in unexplained and inconsistent rulings.” But the shadow docket isn’t the only problem. SCOTUS’s rulings on redistricting this year have been confusing and contradictory. As A.G. Holder said in response to a recent decision on Wisconsin’s state legislative maps, “[The Supreme Court’s] ongoing willingness to act in an inconsistent manner and to ignore precedent raises real questions about its functioning.”
Sula, weWe want to know what you think of the Supreme Court’s recent actions. Will you take our quick survey? Thanks, Team NDRC

In 2010, more than six in 10 Florida voters voted to pass two statewide amendments to prevent legislators from drawing maps to benefit their own party.
Republicans ignored them.
In 2018, three in four Ohio voters supported a ballot measure intended to prevent gerrymandering.
Republicans manipulated the maps anyway.
Also in 2018, a majority of Missouri voters passed a redistricting reform measure.
Two years later, Republicans introduced a ballot initiative that reversed it.
It all shows just how far the GOP will go to keep the maps manipulated – and it shows how hard we have to fight for fairness and reform.
The journey to fair maps isn’t an easy or linear one. We’ve experienced setbacks at the hands of greedy state legislators, disingenuous governors, right-wing dark money groups, and the U.S. Supreme Court. But we’re still here, and we’re making progress – thanks to people like you.
Will you pitch in today to help us keep fighting?

Last week, I returned to Chicago to spend some time with a few of the leaders and young people who are a part of the Obama Foundation’s work in my hometown. |
|
|
| I had a chance to sit down with our University of Chicago Obama Foundation Scholars to talk about the work they’re doing to create change in communities around the world, along with the challenges they’re facing. Here’s what I heard. Whether they’re driving innovative and inclusive growth across Chicago’s tech ecosystem, or mobilizing women in rural neighborhoods to become first generation entrepreneurs in India, each Scholar is grappling with how to break through and meet people where they are in a crowded social media environment. Misinformation and disinformation are everywhere these days, and it’s eroding trust in our democratic institutions. But there’s also good news. Together, we can reimagine our institutions, make them responsive to today’s challenges, and rebuild our societies in a way that gives more and more people a better life. And that’s exactly what the young people I sat down with in Chicago are doing. I left the conversation feeling inspired.Around the world and right here in Chicago, there are young people who are not waiting for someone else to solve big problems. Instead, in the face of sometimes impossible odds, they are rolling up their sleeves and making a difference–one neighborhood, one school, one community at a time. I also had the chance to speak to a group of students at Hyde Park Academy High School on the South Side of Chicago—just across the street from where we’re building the Obama Presidential Center—who are thinking about life after graduation. I got to hear their stories, offer a little advice, and remind them that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Because not too long ago, Michelle and I weren’t so different from them. |
|
And because it wouldn’t be a trip to Chicago without some hoops, I went to a Bulls game with young people from the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance and the Girls Opportunity Alliance who spent the evening learning from business leaders about their careers and how the United Center brings the magic to the arena.
The young people I spent time with during my latest visit are the source of my hope. It’s their imagination, resilience, and belief in the value of every voice that will change our world for the better.
Thanks for being a part of this work.
—Barack
