Last week, I had the privilege of bringing winter essentials and new classroom books to the students at Bret Harte Elementary School on the South Side of Chicago. Looking into the eyes of these 4th grade children reminded me of everything I love about the South Side, and why we do the work we do to inspire and empower people at the Obama Foundation.
I was born on the South Side. The same South Side that gave us everything from the first successful open heart surgery, to the Pullman Car, to gospel music—even Mild Sauce (if you know, you know!).
