The 57th Presidential Inauguration

Yesterday, thousands of people like you rocked it and got official inaugural activities off to an unbelievable start.

People in all 50 states made a long-term commitment to service and together they pledged to serve more than 1 million hours this year. National Day of Service projects across the country honoring Dr. Martin Luther King took steps forward to create a lasting culture of service.

And here in D.C., more than 13,000 people and over 100 service organizations participated in the Service Summit on the National Mall.

Take a look at some great pictures from the day -- this one is my favorite:

Then, check out other highlights from the Day of Service across the country.

The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 11:30 Eastern Time tomorrow morning. Whether you'll be on the Mall or watching from home, there are several ways to stay plugged in.

For real-time updates:

-- Follow the Presidential Inaugural Committee on Facebook and Twitter.

-- Download our mobile app.

-- If you'll be in D.C., sign up to get updates and alerts via text message.

-- Watch live from your phone or computer: We're running a live stream of the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural parade, and the Commander in Chief's Ball at www.2013pic.org/live.

For a reminder to tune in tomorrow, RSVP here:

The 57th Presidential Inauguration

President Obama recorded a special interview about what his second inauguration means to him -- sharing his personal thoughts on the oath he'll take in just a couple days.

It's powerful stuff. Watch the interview here, and then pass it along:

No matter where you'll be this weekend, you're a part of the inauguration.

I'm excited to let you know about our unprecedented live stream program, kicking off tonight with the Kids' Inaugural for military families, as well as opportunities to watch the swearing-in ceremony, parade, and Commander-in-Chief Ball from anywhere in the country.

Tune in to www.2013pic.org/live starting at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time tonight for performances from Katy Perry, the cast of Glee, and Usher at the official Kids' Concert here in Washington, D.C.

If you'd like a reminder to tune in for the ceremony on Monday, RSVP here:

Join the National Day of Service
On Saturday, January 19, President Obama and the First Lady, the Vice President and Dr. Biden will take part in an event that's become a tradition -- a National Day of Service on the weekend of Martin Luther King Day to celebrate Dr. King's legacy.
No matter where you are in America, you have an opportunity to join this effort and serve your community. The Presidential Inaugural Committee has helped to organize events all over the country.
This National Day of Service is about strengthening the communities that we call home, and that's a goal that we can all share.
So on Saturday, take part in a food drive or help paint a school. Clean up a park or help make care packages for veterans.
There are many ways that all of us can make a difference in our communities and our neighborhoods. Find one here:
The President is looking forward to seeing you out there!
P.S. -- The commitment to public service doesn't end this weekend. Find opportunities to help in your community year round, at Serve.gov.
Haven't had an opportunity to RSVP for a National Day of Service event near you this Saturday?

Volunteers have organized thousands of projects in all 50 states, and there are a few near you that are still looking for extra hands.

You made a pledge to join us -- now, take a look at just one event I think you'll like and RSVP:

What: National Day of Service Event in Brooklyn

Where: 3200 Flatbush Ave
Brooklyn, NY
 11234

When: Saturday, January 19th
9:15 am EST

RSVP now

Or find another service project close by.

You'll join your neighbors, make new friends, honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and get ready for the inauguration.

Yesterday, President Obama announced his plan to protect our children and our communities by helping reduce gun violence.

We won't stop every violent act like the one in Newtown, Connecticut. But if we can save the life of even one child, the President believes each of us has a responsibility to take action.

People like you spoke out and demanded action. Your input, along with ideas from leaders and policymakers across the political spectrum, went into the President's plan.

Learn more about the plan, and say you stand with President Obama in tackling this critical issue.

Most gun owners use their guns safely and responsibly, and the President believes firmly in protecting our Second Amendment rights.

But common-sense changes can go a long way in keeping our streets and our schools safer -- and there's too much at stake to stand by and wait for action.

The President will not wait. Yesterday, he signed 23 executive actions to start moving our country in the right direction. And he's calling on Congress to act on four legislative measures -- closing background check loopholes, banning military-style assault weapons, making our schools safer, and increasing access to mental health services -- right away.

Take a look at the President's plan to reduce gun violence, and stand with him in support:

Please  attend the "Guns Across America" rally on Jan. 19, 2013, at your state capital building (Except Florida).  This event starts at "high noon" local time.  I'm posting a link for the event, and for my Facebook page, "Gun Control = More Crime."  Please America, I implore you to stand up for our 2nd amendment rights.  Our voices must be heard.
Florida Patriots: We are meeting at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St., Brooksville, FL 34601.  This is to help people come from all over the state.
Lawful gun owners use their weapon reluctantly, and only in the gravest of danger. They exercise skill and discipline with their defensive training. Unlike police, a lawful gun owner will never give you a speeding ticket, or tax you to provide you with protection.

Responsible gun owners have always acted as peacekeepers in society.

We acknowledge our responsibility to our well-being, and those around us. We acknowledge that laws are not followed by criminals, and valiantly stand opposed to restrictions on the tools we legally use for defense.

American Gun Owners.
Armed, trained, and peaceful.
