All On The Line

This week, we begin our first Redistricting U trainings in communities that will lead the fight for fair redistricting in 2021. Redistricting U is central to our plan to end gerrymandering -- it means that All On The Line will have citizen leaders prepared and ready to hold elected officials accountable, recruit new volunteers, and educate their neighbors about the impact redistricting will make in their day-to-day lives.

This training initiative is only possible thanks to the many folks who stepped up with a donation -- this work needs grassroots support.

Will you join the Founding Members team? In order to hold map manipulators accountable, we need to build a strong grassroots movement -- and it starts with Redistricting U.

At the heart of Redistricting U, All On The Line takes on a very simple idea: ordinary citizens in America have the power -- and the responsibility -- to create change. When I travel the country, I hear the frustration of Americans who are tired of elected officials who refuse to act to protect their communities from gun violence, want to roll-back health insurance for their loved ones, or refuse to even acknowledge the threat of climate change. But when we do the work of explaining how manipulated maps obstruct our progress and when we show folks the role that they can play in the redistricting process -- their frustration turns to hope and action.

Redistricting U is driven by all of you -- hopeful citizens who want change on the issues we care about. It's essential to the fight for fair maps. It's how we take the plan to end gerrymandering and customize it to the unique challenges and opportunities in each state. But this level of grassroots organizing is only possible when we have strong support from our grassroots donors.

Will you become a Founding Member today to help us grow the Redistricting U program?

The fight for fair maps is really a fight for our democracy -- because at the end of the day, manipulated electoral maps dilute your power to choose elected officials and then hold them accountable. That's why I'm committed to ending gerrymandering. I believe, together, we can make our democracy work better for the people of this nation, not just politicians and special interests.

All On The Line
Election Day for many Americans is exactly 4 weeks out. Make sure you check if local or state elections are happening where you live. If you're headed to the polls in November, here are a few things to keep in mind while you're finalizing your voting plan:
  • Where is your designated polling location?
  • What time do polls open and close?
  • Where do candidates stand on fair maps?
Will you make the AOTL Citizen Commitment to only support candidates who want fair maps and representative districts?

Our political system is broken and politicians are making it worse by using partisan gerrymandering that almost guarantees they get reelected. With the redistricting process set to start in 2021, we need to elect candidates, this year and next, who are committed to fair maps.

Every down-ballot race, now through 2021, is a chance to hold elected officials accountable -- if they side with map manipulation over fair redistricting, vote them out.

All On The Line

Earlier this month we saw the clearest proof point for the centrality of All On The Line's role in the fight to end gerrymandering and map manipulation.

In North Carolina, a state with some of the most unfair maps in the country, a panel of judges ruled that the state's General Assembly districts were partisan gerrymanders -- so partisan, they said, that the maps violated the state's constitution. So, they ordered that a significant portion of the maps be redrawn.

Thanks to supporters like you, All On The Line provided immediate support on the ground after the court's order. Volunteers demanded transparency and fairness throughout the court-ordered redraw. All On The Line engaged folks from Wilmington to Asheville to the research triangle to make sure their voices were heard.

This is exactly the kind of grassroots engagement we'll need if we're going to hold legislators accountable during the 2021 redistricting process -- a process that will define districts for the next decade.

All On The Line has proven that its campaign works, providing a vehicle to demand fairness throughout the next round of redistricting. But they can only continue their incredible work with your support. Can you contribute to keep funding All On The Line's fight for fair voting maps?

The court's ruling was a milestone for the people of North Carolina -- and for all voters across the country. But as we've seen, progress requires us to be vigilant to keep up the momentum.

In 2021, states across the nation will redraw their electoral maps. It will be on all of us to ensure that fairness and transparency are pillars of that map-drawing process. This next round of redistricting will determine the fate of our elections for the next decade.

We have to work together to make our voices heard, and that's the kind of work All On The Line is fueling in states like North Carolina. And it's work that makes me proud to stand side by side with you in this movement.

Brazil’s economic and social future will be built on the foundations of human capital. A strong foundation is a must if Brazil is to achieve higher economic growth and reduced inequality.

The dimensions of human capital are synergistic and developed over a lifetime, with critical building blocks formed from early childhood. Join us for a discussion with Flavio Cunha and Saulo Barreto who are at the forefront of developing social technologies based on theoretical and empirical understandings of human capital development. Specifically, they will discuss what is known about the impact that institutions, education, and societal bonds have on individuals during early childhood and adolescence, and how they influence human capital over a lifetime.

Following the discussion the Research Institute for Technology and Education (IPTI) will hold an exhibition detailing several of the Social Technologies they have developed, and their potential for application throughout Brazil and other countries. Three of the projects to be discussed will feature the role of AmBev/ABI and its support in developing new technologies.

MIKI WANIBUCHI

Born in 1981 in Osaka, Japan
Lives and works in Osaka, Japan

A white surface becomes the boundary which separates the viewer from the other side of the painting. In order to pursue where one meets the other – or the world, the artist has been walking on that boundary and making it my subject matter. Physical input, such as walking around the place where there seems to be a boundary and touching the earth, are important aspects of my artwork. This is because it seems necessary to carefully touch each one by one to actually “know the world”, or perceive the difference between one and the other. In the things produced during this process, Miki Wanibuchi believes there should be real action, traces and tracks of the artist, and this is what I create in my artwork as an artist. Furthermore, my objective is to provide the viewer with a chance to think about knowing others, and perceiving the world.
The artist think it is not so easy to truly know others, and we need imagination to understand that we are all different. In her recent works, people may feel that they cannot find any detailed explanations in the paintings, mostly covered with white, with the exception of a subtle hint of colour and texture, emerging from underneath or at the edges of the canvas. The white surface represents the abandonment of images and emotions of the artist and my intention is to make the viewer perceive the physical aspects of paint and canvas. The main concept is to allow the viewer to look beyond the white surface, in other words, to look closer at what is in between the canvas as an object and the image an artist would normally paint. The painter would like the viewer to pay attention to where the artist’s intention and evidence are hidden.
In recent society, our senses seem to have been become dulled; however, Miki believe that the silence in the pared-down painting leaves the viewer to hone their thinking and imagination in confronting this vagueness. An aesthetic may result from this, leading us to try to know others and the world, and as a result, The artist feel we will find a power in our pursuit to gently heal the world.
