All On The Line
Last week, we came together for a team retreat. While it was incredible to see each other in person, what we realized as we went deep on our state strategies and calendars is that we're going to need everyone's help to be successful.

Here are just a few takeaways we want you to know:

Three key takeaways:

-- In some states with redistricting commissions, we need to start mobilizing folks now to apply. For example, the application process in Colorado starts this summer!
-- During the height of redistricting in 2021, many of our target states will need volunteers to ensure accountability during legislative hearings -- some could happen as early as February.
-- In some states, like in Wisconsin, the fight for fair maps might continue into 2022.

In short, this will be a long, sustained fight in multiple states across the country. We need to make sure our states have everything they need to be successful -- materials for Redistricting U, placards and Citizen Commitment cards, toolkits for making calls to elected officials, a budget, and a plan for rapid response... the list goes on.

Every dollar we raise helps us get closer to ending gerrymandering. Will you donate to our Grassroots Advocacy Fund?

All On The Line
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is central to the legacy of the civil rights movement, and for years it protected voters from having their rights diminished. But today the right to vote is under attack in a way that we have not seen in decades.

Here's the latest: some people in Texas reportedly had to wait up to seven hours to vote on Super Tuesday. That is abhorrent and unacceptable. You can draw a direct line from the wait times last week to two events over the past decade: gerrymandering that locked conservatives into illegitimate power and the Supreme Court's decision to dismantle a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013.

We must fight and win to hold politicians responsible for these discriminatory tactics. This fight is core to the values of All On The Line -- we must return power to the people. If you're with me, let's rally a massive grassroots response. Your contributions will go directly toward our work to amplify the voices of citizens.

In the last redistricting cycle, the Texas legislature aggressively gerrymandered so that the state's politicians could choose their voters and lock in their own power. And in 2013, the state's legislature was freed up to impose any discriminatory voting tactics it wanted after the Supreme Court blocked the federal government's ability to preemptively stop voter suppression measures. By 2018, the state's gerrymandered legislature had closed roughly 750 polling places -- more than any other state.

It is this systemic protection of ill-begotten power -- and the desire to protect that power at all cost -- that we must fight. And the only remedy is a chorus of citizens calling for change.

Join us. We're creating the technology, hiring the staff, and building the infrastructure to win. But we can't do it without the generous support of our online donors. Pitch in so we don't fall behind on our plans.

We’re already a third of the way through the month.

Here’s the good news: We’ve made our first three political investments this year and we’re seeing great Democratic voter turnout in presidential primaries across the country.

Here’s the tough news: We need to pick up our fundraising pace if we’re going to turn out all of these voters for down-ballot races in November so we can defeat map-rigging Republicans.

To get back on track, we need to raise another $5,000 by midnight tonight. Will you make a donation right now to fight for a decade of fair maps? Give at this secure link to make sure your donation counts toward our goal: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ndrc-midmarch/sula_costa@yahoo.com

Thanks for being a part of this fight,
Ben

Vox:
“It looks like Trump is trying to trick people into filling out “census” forms online”

Sula -- Trump cronies have found yet another scheme to manipulate redistricting:
➢ The RNC is sending out political mailers that look like official census documents. (The state of Montana even warned voters about the scam.)

➢ The Trump campaign ran deceptive Facebook ads to trick people into filling out fake “census” forms.
We’re going to have to fight harder than ever to ensure fairness in the face of these shady practices. Can you pitch in to help?

Let’s review all the ways Trump and Republicans have attempted to manipulate the 2020 Census in order to supercharge their gerrymandering:
➢ They tried to add a discriminatory citizenship question to depress census participation among immigrant communities and communities of color. If they’d been successful, Republicans would have gotten more seats than they were due in Congress and state legislatures.

➢ When the Supreme Court shot down their plan, they started compiling other types of data to try to diminish minority voices during redistricting.

➢ And now they’re using misleading mailers and online ads that look like official census documents which could depress census participation.
There’s no limit to how low they’re willing to stoop, Sula. But we’re committed to fighting them tooth and nail until we achieve a fair census and fair elections.

Time is running out before voters go to the polls for the last time before redistricting. Will you rush a donation NOW?
