All On The Line
Sula -- I knew I wanted to fight for justice and equality at a young age. After law school, I joined the U.S. Department of Justice and was later honored to serve as Attorney General in the Obama Administration.

Seven years ago, my commitment to this fight only intensified after the Supreme Court gutted a key provision of the Voting Rights Act that had helped prevent discriminatory voting practices for almost 50 years, in the Shelby County case.

The Shelby County decision unleashed a sudden and persistent wave of restrictive voting laws in states across the country.

The Supreme Court did not create voter suppression with that decision -- but it did open the door for the forces that have attempted to suppress voters for generations and gave permission to anti-voting interests to be bolder, more obstructive, and more unabashedly out in the open.

From the moment the ruling came down, unnecessary and discriminatory voting restrictions went up across the country in places with gerrymandered state legislatures like North Carolina and Texas.

All On The Line has a state-by-state plan to combat gerrymandering, which includes addressing attempts to disenfranchise voters this fall. Can we count on you to support our work and help secure our elections this year so we can end map manipulation when the nation redistricts in 2021?

We have already seen state legislators in gerrymandered states like Wisconsin and Georgia follow their party's lead in refusing to protect our elections and making matters even worse by upholding voting restrictions and blocking public health-based electoral reform during this pandemic.

I refuse to let these schemes go unchallenged. We are facing an uphill, but winnable, battle to ensure safe, fair, and accessible elections to help end gerrymandering -- and I believe in the power of a strong grassroots movement. Can I count on you to pitch in to support this work?

To achieve a fair democracy, we must end map manipulation. But that won't be possible until every eligible person has a fair chance to vote.

Thanks for helping me make that a reality,
-- Eric H. Holder, Jr.

What Happened: The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit held that an investor could not seek 28 USC § 1782 (“Section 1782”) discovery in the United States from four investment banks for use in the investor’s private commercial arbitration in China.
The Bottom Line: While Section 1782 can be used to provide assistance to the “broad panoply of unilateral, multilateral, international, and novel administrative bodies,” it does not “sweep so broadly as to include private commercial arbitration.” In so holding, the Second Circuit continues to align with the Fifth Circuit’s reading of the statute, but conflicts with that of the Fourth, Sixth, and Eleventh Circuits, which have held that the meaning of the word “tribunal” within Section 1782 encompasses private commercial arbitration.

Top 10 Ecommerce Retailers Will Grow Their Market Share to 60.1% in 2020
By Cindy Liu
The retail divide among top performers and the rest of the market has been amplified by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to our most recent forecast, the top 10 US ecommece players will collectively grow their share of the overall ecommerce market to 60.1% in 2020. That’s up from 58.2% last year, as consumers shift toward retailers of essential goods and brands they can count on for reliable delivery and fulfillment.

During times of uncertainty, it’s no surprise that many consumers look for tried-and-true offerings, which are often found when shopping at large retailers. Per a March 2020 survey from tech firm Red Points, majorities of US internet users said product quality (62.1%), speed of delivery (56.6%), price (53.6%) and trustworthiness (51.8%) were the factors of digital retail they valued during the pandemic.
Many large retailers possess a notable presence in ecommerce and are better positioned to capitalize on their existing online practices. Over the past few months, consumers have increasingly turned to Amazon and big-box chains such as Walmart, Target and Costco. Each of these companies has had its online sales surge during the pandemic.
We expect the top 10 ecommerce retailers to grow their ecommerce sales at above-average rates, collectively increasing by 21.8% this year and outpacing the growth of the overall market (18.0%).
Amazon will maintain its No. 1 position as it increases its ecommerce market share from 37.0% in 2019 to 38.0% by year-end. Walmart—on the strength of its anticipated growth rate of 44.2%—will surpass eBay for the No. 2 position with 5.8% market share, up from 4.7% last year.
Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot and Target are also positioned for above-average ecommerce growth, ranging from 36.0% to 52.0%.

One-day to raise $10,000 »

Sula -- It's been two months since the House passed the HEROES Act, a bill containing election protection proposals. But for 60 days and counting, Mitch McConnell has refused to take action on those issues.

Everyone should be able to vote in safe conditions. Yet, the Senate refuses to fully fund the protections that could make that a reality. The HEROES Act would provide funding for the USPS, voting empowerment, and census efforts as the country's ongoing pandemic threatens its timely completion.

With less than four months until election day, the Senate needs to act now or people may have to choose between their health and safely casting ballots. We're gearing up for a big day-of-action later this month -- can you make a one-time donation to help fuel our efforts?

Mitch McConnell and his colleagues in the Senate believe they are better off when fewer people vote. Voter suppression is a first step to maintaining ill-begotten, long term power. Another step? Controlling the redistricting process in 2021. They will try to run out the clock on election protection if we don't hold them accountable.

AOTL spent the past 60 days sounding the alarm on McConnell's plan to prevent folks from casting their ballots safely this November. But if we're going to protect our elections this year, we're going to need help -- and quickly.

We set a one-day goal of raising $10,000 today by midnight. We want to show Mitch McConnell we have an army of grassroots supporters ready to hold him accountable. Are you in?

The redistricting process is mere months away and we have a lot of work to do this year to make sure map manipulators don't have control over the process in 2021. Luckily, we know we can count on your support.

Thanks for being a part of this,
-- The AOTL Team
