Sula,

The attacks on our democracy have been nonstop these days. It feels like we can barely catch our breath:

Multiple states have passed rare mid-decade redraws — manipulating their congressional maps to unfairly hold on to power and ignore the will of the people. And if the news is any indication, more states might follow suit.

The Supreme Court just heard oral arguments in Louisiana v. Callais over whether the Voting Rights Act is constitutional. Their impending decision will have nationwide implications for fair maps.

And behind the scenes, the Trump administration is making efforts to hijack one of the most important tools for determining fair representation: The U.S. Census.

This is an urgent moment that requires urgent support. We have to be ready to respond as a movement. Will you make a donation to help us defeat these attacks and protect democracy?

Listen: I get it. There’s a lot going on right now. Anti-democracy forces want to overwhelm us with their incessant efforts. We can’t let them.

In less than a year, Trump and other extremists have unleashed a whirlwind of attacks on the census, one of the foundations of our democracy:

  • The Trump administration removed census data from the internet that is normally available to the public.
  • Four conservative states filed a lawsuit against the Census Bureau, asking the court to order the Bureau to exclude undocumented persons and people with temporary visas.
  • Anti-democracy lawmakers have proposed multiple bills aimed at excluding residents without U.S. citizenship from the 2030 Census.

The census is supposed to count all of the people living in our country. It’s meant to be an accurate count of the entire population. Not only does it determine how much representation each state has in the House of Representatives, it also determines state funding for critical programs, including improving public schools and fixing potholes.

But if extremists get their way, they’ll hijack the census in a blatant power grab. I know we know we can defeat this attack, because the last time they tried to undermine the census, we won. But we’ll have our work cut out for us to make it happen. We need to be ready to get the word out about the importance of the census.

Donate today to support the movement fighting to protect the census and ensure fair representation.

Thank you,
Marina

USO Supporter,

No matter how long the government shutdown lasts, service members and their families will feel the impacts for months to come.

This is a difficult time for our heroes in uniform and their families. The USO has extended center hours and is distributing non-perishable food items and meals to help meet the urgent needs of our military members — but we need your support to keep providing resources for all of our service members around the world.

That’s why we set a goal to raise $25,000 through tomorrow via email and text to help fund emergency support and other programs. Please rush your gift to help today. Thanks to a generous group of donors, your gift will be matched, up to a total of $25,000,* to help us stand with our heroes when they need it most.**

Remember: The USO is a nonprofit organization and not a part of the federal government. In order to meet the increased needs of our military members and their families, we need military supporters to help us reach our goal.

Please donate now — your (DOUBLED) support is crucial.

Thank you for being a proud supporter of our military.

For the People Who Serve,
