I.R.E.O. Projects - Egypt

• I.R.E.O. supports the agricultural project of the Egyptian-Danish Green Desert

NGO that focuses on the use of QUINOA;

• QUINOA is a 100% organic, amino acid-rich (protein) seed, originated in Peru;

• The local Bedouins in the North Coast will be the first to benefit from this

project; it will bring jobs and self-sustainability to low income communities;

• There are great opportunities to expand this project by investing in machinery

and a training centre;

• Although dependent on desert rain, a simple sprinkle system is sufficient;

• Developmental patterns were studied in five groups of quinoa lines and

measured on five different occasions between bud formation and seed set;

• The current phase (country level) is showing great results on three species;

• A training center will serve to educate the local youth on how to plant and sell

the products of this nutritious plant;

• The intent is to export the final product to other regions in need.
