The photographer Meireles Jr. and the singer and composer Flávia Bittencourt unveiled.
Brazil’s culture through their photos and voice respectively
On May 17, New Yorkers will have a chance to learn about one of the most picturesque and amazingly beautiful places in Brazil. The photographer Meireles Jr. and the singer and composer Flávia Bittencourt are bringing to New York a little of the rich and diverse culture of the state of Maranhão through the launch of their latest works, the books “Between Sky and the Earth – Maranhão Image Legacy” e “Supernatural: Impressions about the Lençóis Maranhenses and the Grand Canyon” and the CD/DVD “Leve”, respectively.
The event, which will feature a book signing, photo exhibition and pocket show, will take place at Saphira & Ventura Gallery, Midtown Manhattan, from 7pm to 9:30pm. Although it is a free event, RSVP is necessary (info@artsvgallery.com)
Meireles Jr. started his career as a photographer in 1995 when he was still a Design senior at the Federal University of Maranhão. Throughout the years since then, he has developed a truly refined technique, just as much as he has earned awards, the recognition from critic experts and, most of all, the respect from the public in general.
The artist has already published five books and he is bringing two of them to New York. “Between Heaven and Earth – Maranhão Image Legacy”, which highlights the natural beauties and the culture of Maranhão, and “Supernatural: Impressions about the Lençóis Maranhenses and the Grand Canyon”, which explores the mysteries of these two geographically different natural paradises so singular by their grandiosity and stunning beauty. This book comes with a 20-minute DVD documentary unveiling the making-of of this project.
