Although we are roughly halfway through the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States and Brazil are making the first steps toward reopening, slowly and carefully. Both countries operate within Federalist systems in which state and local government operate with a significant degree of autonomy and sovereignty in determining policy. This is especially true for proactive and reactive COVID-19 policies. The State of New York and several other states have outlined and have started to implement the path of relaxation sheltering in place policies. Brazil states have started to do the same. Our panel will first discuss announced reopening policies and the immediate ramifications for the economies, employers and workers.

National Democratic Redistricting Committee
For the first time in this nation's history, the majority declares that it can do nothing about an acknowledged constitutional violation. -- Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan
When the Roberts-Kavanaugh-Gorsuch Supreme Court ruled that federal courts could not place limits on partisan gerrymandering, Justice Kagan provided a forceful dissent. In truth, the conservative justices' logic was absurd.

But at the NDRC, we've never depended on one court or one case to move our work forward. That's why we have continued pushing our multi-pronged strategy to end gerrymandering:
➔ Helping to win a ton of elections in 2019 (and one in 2020!)
➔ Continuing to educate voters and leaders about the importance of fair redistricting
➔ And now, building on our scope of work to take on Republican voter suppression
But what happens next depends on you. Will you help us fight for fair elections in 2020 and secure equitable maps in 2021?
