Milwaukee Independent headline: RACIAL GERRYMANDERING: WHY POLITICIANS RIG ELECTION MAPS TO SUPPRESS GROWING COMMUNITIES OF COLOR

Sula,

From Texas to Georgia to North Carolina and all over the country, Republicans are using gerrymandering to increase the voting power of their own constituencies while decreasing the power of communities more likely to favor Democrats. It's often communities of color who are affected most.

Even though racial gerrymandering is illegal, Republicans continue to create maps that pack and crack communities of color -- all while claiming that their aims are purely partisan in nature. Just consider this example from North Carolina:

“When the Republicans re-drew the districts in 2016, they claimed to be aiming for purely partisan districts. But they also drew a line through the middle of North Carolina A&T University, dividing the nation’s largest historically Black university between two congressional districts...”
-- Milwaukee Independent

Those North Carolina maps were eventually made fairer in court -- but the fact of the matter is that Republicans will do anything they can to hold on to power, even if it means undermining our democracy.

The NDRC has been preparing for this round of redistricting since our launch in 2017, and our sole focus has been ensuring maps that provide fair representation for all communities.

But right now the fight for fair maps is at its most critical stage. Some states have already enacted new maps, and more are going into law almost every week now. The NDRC has staff on the ground who are working to analyze those map proposals and mobilize the public to demand fair districts -- but we’re counting on your support at this key moment.

So Sula, if you can, please pitch in today to help us keep fighting to end GOP gerrymandering and DEFEND our democracy:

A.G. Holder: If the NDRC is successful in undoing manipulated maps, we will be able to achieve a system in which everyone's vote counts.
Since 2017, the NDRC has executed a comprehensive redistricting strategy that shifts the redistricting power, creating fair districts where Democrats can compete. Our victories have been made possible by our strong community of grassroots supporters.
