Demand action on the Freedom to Vote Act »

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer signaled that if Republicans don’t come to the negotiation table by Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, it is time to reform Senate rules to enable action on voting rights.

This is significant progress -- but now more than ever, your senators need to hear that you support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Take action » Sign this petition! Use our online tool to sign our petition and it will send this message to your senators:

Taking action on voting rights needs to be one of Congress’s top priorities. I support passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis VRAA because these bills would end congressional gerrymandering, restore accountability in our government, and protect the right to vote. Voters deserve to have their voices heard in the political process -- and these bills are essential to making that possible.

SIGN THE PETITION

Together, the FTVA and John Lewis VRAA are the most comprehensive democracy reform legislation in decades.

At a time when we're facing more than 425 voter suppression bills in state legislatures -- and candidates will begin launching 2022 midterm campaigns in mere WEEKS -- it could not be more urgent to put this legislation on the President's desk.

Add your name to our petition to send a message to your senators and tell them you support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis VRAA.

We are finally seeing real momentum in the Senate to pass these bills -- but we need to make sure Congress is hearing from more people who SUPPORT these bills than from special interests and career politicians in gerrymandered districts who oppose these reforms.

With the start of the 2022 midterm election primaries around the corner, we need to pressure Congress to make these bills a priority.

Today, the Ohio Supreme Court struck down state House and state Senate maps that were gerrymandered by Republicans.

This is a huge victory for the fair map movement. This would not be possible without Ohio voters coming together to reform the state’s redistricting process -- banning partisan gerrymandering.

We were proud to help voters in Ohio challenge these maps in court. While these are the first gerrymandered maps to be overturned this year, we don’t want them to be the last.

We are supporting voters in five states who are challenging their state’s maps or demanding new ones in court. Will you chip in to support all our work to fight gerrymandering?

What’s next? The Ohio Redistricting Commission now has 10 days to draw a new map that the Ohio Supreme Court will review. With fewer than three weeks before the filing deadline to run for state legislature in Ohio, all eyes will be on the revised maps.

What does this mean for AOTL? Our team in Ohio is already debriefing fair map activists on this decision. We will do everything possible to push the commission to run a transparent process that considers public input -- and we will hold them accountable!

As more maps are finalized across the country, we will continue to help voters at every step of the redistricting process. The fight for fair maps doesn’t end just because a commission or state legislature passes a gerrymandered map -- it ends when a fair map is final!
