Sula,
A.G. Holder believes that we are moving towards a system of political apartheid. What leads him to such a frightening belief?
Well, conservative state legislatures have gerrymandered maps to disenfranchise voters of color. In Louisiana, a district court judge ruled that Republican maps like these likely violated the VRA and needed a second majority-Black district. The Supreme Court reinstated it, meaning that although nearly a third of the population is Black, only one of Louisiana’s six districts will be majority-black.
In fact, Republican maps are so unfair to voters of color that even Trump-appointed judges in Alabama struck down a GOP congressional map. (The Supreme Court reinstated that map for 2022 and is now considering letting it stand for the decade in Merrill v. Caster).
For decades, people of color have been excluded and alienated by the redistricting process. If we lose this fight, state legislatures controlled by shameless Republicans will continue to create maps that exclude marginalized communities. Our right to fair and representative maps is on the line. |
A.G. Holder has also been sounding the alarm about Moore v. Harper, the latest Republican power grab that could be their biggest yet. The case threatens our systems of checks and balances, and if the Republicans get what they want from the Court, Moore v. Harper would give state legislatures, many of which are gerrymandered and don’t accurately reflect voters, near-total power over how federal elections are conducted.
That means the days of judicial review and governors vetoing gerrymandered maps could be gone, in direct contravention of nearly a century of precedent.
It could also mean the end of voting protections as we know them, since state courts have been one of the last defenses against voter suppression laws passed by Republican-controlled state legislatures.
Conservatives will keep creating these unfair, segregated maps to help them win elections. We will continue fighting back against unfair maps, in and out of court, but we need your help. Can we count on your donation to support our cause?
At All On The Line, we want fair and representative maps. Maps that do not value one political party over the other. Maps that do not isolate and marginalize specific communities. Maps that will lead to competitive elections -- maps that Republicans have repeatedly shown that they are against.
We need your continued support -- make a donation to support our fight against gerrymandered maps. Political apartheid cannot become a norm across the rest of the nation.

| | FIRST: Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams sounded the alarm on protecting abortion access in red states!
THEN: Beto O’Rourke echoed her call on the campaign trail in Texas…
BUT: Democratic governors don’t act alone – even strong abortion rights leaders like Beto and Stacey will need strong support from state legislators to get their progressive agendas off the ground once they’re in office. SO NOW: It’s up to us to help elect state Democrats in states like Texas and Georgia to back up Democratic governors and protect and expand abortion access nationwide! The future of abortion rights rests in the hands of state-level Democrats. So now more than ever, we need to elect state Democrats to come together and fight back against Republicans’ unpopular, regressive, extremist agenda. Will you chip in $7 right now to fill our statehouses with Democrats and build strong legislatures to support our Democratic governors? If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately. |
Without the vital protections of Roe, abortion access in the states will come down to who has power in state legislatures. Electing Democratic state legislators who will work alongside Democratic governors to secure abortion access in their states is our best path forward. When Democrats are in power, they act immediately to protect abortion rights – Democrats in 17 states and D.C. have secured protections for abortion access in state law. When Republicans hold power, they attack our values, our democracy, and our rights. The contrast is clear – Democrats are focused on protecting our rights, while Republicans are doing everything they can to take them away. Will you chip in $7 right now to help elect state Democrats who will work alongside Democrats like Stacey Abrams and Beto O’Rourke to protect abortion rights? Every dollar matters in this fight. Together, Team DLCC DONATE >>
