Mary, the upcoming anniversary of September 11 holds great significance for so many Americans. Most of us can tell you exactly where we were that fateful morning — the shock we experienced as we watched what at first seemed to be a terrible accident, and the horror that set in as we realized it was a premeditated attack.
In the fear and uncertainty that followed that devastating day, our heroes in uniform courageously answered the call to protect our country. There's no way we could ever fully thank them for their bravery, but it's our duty to do the best we can.
That's why the USO is aiming to collect at least 181,510 signatures on a thank-you card for our troops before Sunday — one signature for every service member who enlisted in the year following 9/11.

I know something as simple as signing a card might seem small, but here at the USO, we see firsthand every day how meaningful it is for our troops to feel appreciated by folks back home as they risk their lives for us. This anniversary is a powerful reminder of why our troops serve and what they're protecting — that's why it couldn't be more important to show your support.
