The people of Washington, D.C. have been fighting for statehood for over 200 years — so why is D.C. still not a state?

We know why.

IT’S NOT A COINCIDENCE THAT D.C. HAS A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF BLACK RESIDENTS THAN ANY OF THE 50 STATES AND IS THE ONLY CAPITAL OF A DEMOCRATIC NATION WHOSE RESIDENTS DO NOT HAVE A VOTE IN THE FEDERAL LEGISLATURE.

THIS BLACK HISTORY MONTH, WE NEED YOU TO STAND WITH US IN DEMANDING THAT WASHINGTON, D.C. BE GRANTED STATEHOOD. PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION IMMEDIATELY — YOUR VOICE IS CRITICAL TO THIS FIGHT!

ADD YOUR NAME

The population of D.C. is over 700,000, greater than both Wyoming and Vermont. That’s 700,000 taxpaying Americans whose voices aren’t being heard in the federal legislature — and almost half of those voices are Black.

THAT’S UNACCEPTABLE. ADD YOUR NAME TO OUR PETITION RIGHT NOW AND VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BLACK AMERICANS LIVING AND PAYING TAXES IN D.C. WITHOUT REPRESENTATION:

— The Collective PAC

The Collective PAC is strategically focused on creating a truly equitable democracy where our nation’s local, state and federal governments have diverse and talented elected leadership and Black people are fully represented in positions of power to create the policies necessary to progress our communities forward. Since our inception in 2016, we have helped 110 candidates win general elections at the local, state and federal levels. We strive to support the next wave of progressive and unapologetic Black candidates who will usher in a sea of change in our political system while helping America fulfill its promise of democracy by creating a government that will truly be for the people and of the people.
