The Brazilian Music Foundation (BMF), in partnership with Asuos Productions, will present the 3rd Annual International Choro Festival (ChoroFest), with a variety of interesting performances. The Festival collaborators aim to involve different cultures in an exchange of artistic talents between the U.S. and Brazil.

The opening concert will feature a crossover from Classical to Popular Choro music. Those who appreciate the genuine sound of Brazilian instrumental music will have the opportunity to enjoy the 3rd Annual “International Choro Festival” in the City of New York.

About the Choro Festival (Chorofest)

Choro music is roots jazz from Brazil and considered Brazil’s first “urban pop” music. In this unique show, you will experience a wide range of pieces by many of Brazil’s important 20th-century composers, including Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Ernesto Nazareth,  and new composers such as Wagner Tiso and Alberto Rosenblit.

The Choro Festival in NYC aims to preserve and share the Choro (Crying), considered one of the oldest gender and rich instrumental music from Brazil.
This style of music has been presented since the nineteenth century in all regions of the country.

About Choro music:
The Brazilian musical style of Choro represents the coming together of European melodic and harmonic traditions with African rhythms and sensibilities. Emerging in Brazil in the middle of the nineteenth century, Choro is a cousin of jazz, with a sense of yearning that is often described as a “sweet lament.” Many ethnomusicologists believe that the name Choro comes from the Portuguese verb chorar—that is, to weep or to cry. It often seems bright and happy on the surface, but if you dig deeper you’ll find a kind of sadness, a longing that Brazilians call saudade. Something about the combination of Portuguese and Italian influences resulted in melodies with a strong romantic feeling. When joined with its African influences, Choro has an irresistible groove and rhythmic momentum that is uniquely Brazilian.

While technological innovation and disruption is a constant theme, every few decades we witness changes brought by a technology disruption that sets the stage for massive new opportunities while upending market leaders. In the 1980s, the disruption came in the form of the PC, which transformed the computing industry. For $2,500-roughly 1% of the cost of a mainframe-companies could now put computing power directly in the hands of their employees. Over the next decade, costs continued to plummet, processing power soared, and the Internet emerged, laying the groundwork for another disruption, in the 2000s:
the WiFi-enabled smartphone.

Location: Proskauer Rose LLP, New York, New York

Since the launch of the Brazilian Investment and Partnership Program (PPI) in May 2016, agreements have been executed involving 54 infrastructure projects, capturing USD $17.5 billion of net proceeds and substantial commitments to invest further.   Another 92 private/public partnerships are expected to be offered under the PPI by year end 2018.  The partnerships to be offered consist of a wide range of greenfield and brownfield projects and concessions.  Included in the PPI are airports, railroads, transmission lines, port terminals, highways, mining properties, and assorted other assets.  Collectively, these projects signal a dramatic transformation in doing business with government entities in Brazil.

The panel’s keynote speaker will be Marco Aurélio de Barcelos Silva (Secretário de Articulação para Investimentos e Parcerias), will discuss the Program’s accomplishments to date, and the inventory of remaining projects, concessions and privatizations under the PPI, with emphasis on those opportunities that are further advanced along the path to market.  He and other speakers will also discuss the views of foreign investors and Brazilian investors in the PPI, sources of financing, and measures designed to mitigate associated risks.
