Before redistricting began, experts were convinced that the 2021-22 cycle would be a repeat of 2011, when Republicans manipulated the maps to disastrous effect:
The Guardian: “Republicans poised to rig the next election by gerrymandering electoral maps (July 2021)” -- “‘I'm very worried that we'll have several states, important states, with among the worst gerrymanders in American history,’ said... a law professor at Harvard, who closely studies redistricting.”
But now they're singing a different tune:
The Washington Post: “Surprisingly, there has been a redistricting turnaround” (December 2021); AP: “Democrats make surprising inroads in redistricting fight” (January 2022)
What changed? The fair redistricting movement – which folks like you helped support – made a difference.
“The fight isn't over yet.” — Barack Obama
So will you keep working alongside us to secure fair redistricting?

Last week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court sided with voters over map manipulators. After a decade of gerrymandered maps in Wisconsin, this decision is a big deal.

But Republicans are already trying to squash this fair map win -- today, they asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in and potentially prevent these fair maps from being used for the midterm elections.

We need your help. All On The Line is committed to helping voters challenge gerrymandered maps and defend fair maps in court. Will you make a donation to support our mission to end gerrymandering?

Good news: Republicans are losing in court because they broke the law. The slew of right-wing losses in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina -- and now Wisconsin -- demonstrate that the era of Republicans simply choosing their own voters without consequences is coming to a close.

Bad news: Short term, the GOP is hoping the U.S. Supreme Court will overrule some of these state-level decisions. Long term, Republicans are now investing BIG into electing partisan, right-wing state judges who would uphold their future gerrymandered maps.

We need to continue investing in this grassroots movement for fair maps now. Can we count on your support?

Sula – the past six months of working for fair redistricting have been both exhilarating and challenging.

Exhilarating because we've helped prevent gerrymandered maps in states like Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and more. Challenging because Republicans continue to use every possible tactic to gerrymander – and they're becoming more ruthless.

We're now transitioning into a new phase of redistricting. Most states have adopted maps, but that doesn't mean the fight is over: With our affiliates, the NDRC continues to defend fair maps and support voters in lawsuits against manipulated maps, hold Republicans accountable for gerrymandering, and, with the 2022 elections coming up, support candidates who will defend fair redistricting.

This new phase is just as important as the last one, and we can't risk losing momentum. So we have to ask: How committed are you to seeing redistricting through to the end?

  • Very committed
  • Somewhat committed
  • Not committed
