Tribute to James S. Rosenstein

(1946-2025)

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, we share with deep regret the passing of James Rosenstein, on January 3, 2025 at the age of 78.  A dedicated friend and longtime supporter of the Chamber, Mr. Rosenstein served as the Chamber’s Executive Director from November 2014 through March 2017.  During his tenure, he drew upon his wealth of knowledge of Brazil and his international experience to guide the Chamber in strengthening its role as the leading business platform connecting Brazil and the United States.

Born on April 1, 1946 in Hartford, CT, Mr. Rosenstein was educated at Harvard University, Sorbonne Université, and École Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs.  His international career included leadership roles in communications and public affairs at major institutions such as Banque Nationale de Paris, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Toyota Motor Europe, and Bentley Motors.  As Executive Director of the Chamber, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the relationship between Brazil and the United States, expanding our community of members and partners, and championing initiatives that reflected his global vision and deep respect for both nations.

Mr. Rosenstein’s passion for languages and culture was a defining aspect of his life.  Fluent in Portuguese, French, and English – and conversational in Spanish – he brought his linguistic talents to both professional and personal pursuits.  He was an accomplished interpreter, a scholar of ethnomusicology, and a devoted contributor to the arts and civic life in the Berkshires, particularly in Lenox, MA, where he spent his later years.

Mr. Rosenstein is survived by his wife, Maria Carolina (Torres de Araujo) Rosenstein; son, Philip Rosenstein; sister, Alice Spatz; and brother-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Spatz.  He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Gold.

Mr. Rosenstein will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments, but also for the generosity, compassion, and integrity he brought to every interaction.

A message from Tim Walz

Team, I wanted you to hear it from me first: I’m running to continue serving as Governor of Minnesota.

Here in Minnesota, we’ve cut child poverty, expanded labor rights, invested in education, made sure every student gets free breakfast and lunch at school, and so much more.

We’re putting people first — and giving folks the freedom to live their own lives the way they want to live them.

But team, everything we’re building is under attack. Donald Trump and his fellow extremists are dismantling basic services like Social Security and Medicare, leaving working families behind, and threatening our freedoms.

That’s why I’m running — because we’ve got a lot more work to do, and I’m sure as hell not going to let MAGA extremists flip this state red.

Will you stand with me and split a donation between my campaign and The Collective PAC to show that we are fired up and ready to win?

Republicans want to gut your benefits and hand out tax breaks to billionaires. They think no one will notice. And if we do, they think we won’t fight back.

We’re going to prove them wrong. But to do it, we need the resources to fight back starting right now — there’s no time to waste.

If you're with me, pitch in and split a donation between my campaign and The Collective PAC today so we can continue showing the country that there is a better way forward.

The Suspect In Charlie Kirk Killing Has Been Arrested. Here’s What We Know

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, officials said Friday, bringing an end to a frantic manhunt for the gunman.

“We got him,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at a news conference.

Cox identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson of Utah. He said one of Robinson’s family members reached out to a friend, who contacted the Washington County sheriff’s office on Thursday night with information that Robinson had confessed or implied that he was the gunman.

That information was relayed to authorities, and FBI Director Kash Patel said Robinson was arrested at 10 p.m. local time Thursday night.

Cox said investigators interviewed a family member, who said that Robinson had “become more political in recent years.” The family member also recounted a recent dinner with Robinson at which he stated that Kirk was going to be speaking at Utah Valley University.

“They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” Cox said. “The family member also stated Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate.”

Cox said investigators also spoke with Robinson’s roommate, who showed authorities messages allegedly from Robinson on the social media platform Discord. In those messages, the individual believed to be Robinson says he needs to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, and stated the firearm was wrapped in a towel.

Officials Announce A ‘Framework’ For Keeping TikTok Online In The U.S.

U.S. officials say they have reached a “framework” for a deal with China over the fate of the hugely popular short-video platform TikTok, an apparent breakthrough in the multi-year standoff over the ban against the Chinese-owned app.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the news after two days of talks with Chinese officials in Madrid. He added that President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping would “speak on Friday to complete the deal.”

Trump posted on social media: “A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!!”

China’s state news agency Xinhua called the talks in Spain “candid and in-depth,” but it was less clear about whether or not the end of the TikTok saga is in sight. It said the two sides had reached “a basic consensus on a framework to properly resolve TikTok-related issues through cooperation, reduce investment barriers, and promote relevant economic and trade cooperation.”
