Beatriz Bracher presents I Didn’t Talk
September 3 @ 8:00 PM
City Winery
The multi-Grammy-nominated Bebel Gilberto's latest album, Tudo, which means “everything” in English, showcases Bebel’s ethereal vocals and wistful, dreamy song writing in each of the CD’s 12 tracks. Bebel splits her time between Rio de Janeiro and New York City; she’s exquisitely synthesized musical influences from both cities in every track. Bebel’s sultry tonality is constant throughout Tudo as are the warm and playful Brazilian rhythms that include wood bongos and shakers. The gorgeous melodies are shaped by touches of electronica, and Bebel’s intimate vocals hint at a fantastical Rio de Janeiro.

Beatriz Bracher’s novel I Didn’t Talk represents the English-language debut of a master stylist: a compassionate but relentless novel about the long, dark harvest of Brazil’s totalitarian rule. As a professor prepares to retire from São Paulo to the countryside, it isn’t the urban violence he’s fleeing: what he fears most is the violence of his memory.

The featured artists were selected by 4heads co-founders Laemmle, Robinson, and Zito from more than 800 proposals submitted through the nonprofit’s open call. The selection includes artists new to the 4heads community, as well as those that have shown previously at either or both GIAF and Portal art fair. Returning artists make up an important aspect of the 4heads mission, which is focused on both providing presentation opportunities for artists and supporting artists through the ongoing development and evolution of their careers. GIAF continues to offer fair participation to artists free of charge, with 70% of sales also going directly to the artists.

Think about something with me for a second:
It's been 53 years since the Voting Rights Act became law, strengthening our democracy and ensuring that every American could exercise their right to vote.
That might seem like a long time, but when you think about our country's history, it's really not long at all: Just a few decades since all those brave men and women -- knowing they'd be intimidated, turned away, or even beaten -- stood up to fight for their right to cast a ballot anyway.
These courageous leaders didn't lead that movement for themselves alone. They led it for future generations, too. They led it for us.
Now, it's our turn. We need to honor their legacy. We need to continue their work. And that's why I'm reaching out to you today, Sula:
I want you to join me and When We All Vote, my new initiative to make sure every eligible American casts their vote on Election Day.
The right to vote is the most powerful tool we have to make our voices heard as citizens. And if we want to keep this movement alive, it's up to us to make sure everyone exercises that right in November.
There are so many ways you can help When We All Vote in this final push before Election Day:
Host an event in your neighborhood to register voters. Train your friends on how to spread the word to others. Fire folks up to do their part in our democracy. Talk to everyone you know.
There's too much at stake this year to sit it out, Sula.
Join me on the When We All Vote team -- and say you're ready to get to work:

Thank you,
Michelle Obama
