SATURDAY, JULY 5, 2025 HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! President Trump sent a stern message to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell about the need to lower interest rates,  held a diplomatic call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia about ending the war in Ukraine, and welcomed Edan Alexander to the Oval Office who had been held hostage by Hamas for 584 days. The President also travelled to Florida to tour the new federal immigration facility dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” and to Iowa for the America 250 kickoff for a Salute to America Celebration. His week ended triumphantly as he was able to sign the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law at the Military Family Picnic just before watching the Independence Day fireworks from the White House balcony. Vice President Vance, in his role as Senate President, cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill allowing it to pass in the Senate with a vote of 51-50. The Second Family then celebrated Independence Day at Mt. Rushmore. After the festivities, the Vice President traveled to North Dakota and held a press gaggle in support of American energy and the bill. First Lady Melania Trump visited children and families Children's National Hospital and decorated the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden which she dedicated in 2017.
