Indiana Governor Mike Braun just let the truth slip out about Donald Trump's threats towards conservatives to ensure they follow his orders to gerrymander:
“If we try to drag our feet as a state on it, probably, we’ll have consequences of not working with the Trump administration as tightly as we should.”
When asked in another interview what “consequences” he was referring to, Braun said:
“That just means I think the Trump administration, for what it’s trying to do, if you’re not kind of getting involved as well as you can on the political side, you probably are not going to be the first call when it comes to the benefits of — just like we’re one of 5 states now — as the agriculture department moves its bureaucracy into the interior; we’re one of those 5 states.”
This is shameful: Braun is warning that his state could face political ramifications and even potentially lose federal funding if they don’t go along with Trump’s redistricting rampage.
This isn’t governance in a democracy — this is an authoritarian shakedown. It’s blackmail in broad daylight. And a dangerous escalation in pressure tactics from the White House. Sula, voters on both sides of the aisle want to see their leaders stand up to the bully.

We recently led a training for Indiana volunteers to help them understand how they can get involved and testify against this extreme power grab. And we’re amplifying the work of our affiliates who are launching legal challenges to gerrymandering across the country.
