It happen on the last 19th, a special screening of the documentary "The Joker of Cinema" took place at API – Associação Paulista de Imprensa (São Paulo Press Association), in an evening marked by memory, recognition, and celebration of the history of São Paulo cinema. The screening, held in the Sala Nobre (Noble Hall) of the Palácio da Imprensa (Press Palace) in the historic center of São Paulo, was free and brought together professionals in the field, students, admirers of the seventh art, and guests.
The event featured an enriching conversation with filmmaker Virgílio Roveda – the protagonist of the work – accompanied by the documentary team. The dialogue revealed previously untold stories, behind-the-scenes curiosities, and reflections on the inner workings of Brazilian film production, especially that of professionals who, despite being fundamental, often remain invisible to the general public.
Directed by Sérgio Kieling and inspired by the book by journalist and writer Matheus Trunk, the documentary "The Joker of Cinema" relives the trajectory of Virgílio Roveda, who has just completed 60 years of his career. With over five decades dedicated to São Paulo's audiovisual industry, Virgílio worked in various genres and roles—cameraman, director of photography, producer—becoming an essential figure in understanding the technical and creative evolution of cinema in the state.
Released in 2019, the film is a tribute to the anonymous technicians who, with talent and resilience, built the history of Brazilian cinema. Through Roveda's narrative, the documentary traces an affective and historical panorama of national production, highlighting technological changes, the challenges faced by the profession, and the unwavering love for this art.
The special screening reinforced API's commitment to valuing cultural initiatives that preserve the country's audiovisual memory, bringing the public closer to works that reveal the importance of the behind-the-scenes aspects and their protagonists.

Dear USO Supporter,
As a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, I can tell you it's the holidays that were the most difficult days to be deployed.
I remember being stationed in Japan when Thanksgiving rolled around. Some of us gathered our money, and we bought a Thanksgiving meal to go.
We didn't really have a place to eat it — then we remembered the USO. They had a nice little room, and it was the only place that wasn't going to charge us to sit together and eat our Thanksgiving meal.
We brought all our food and broke bread together right there in the USO Center. And it made the day special.
There are thousands of service members who are far from home this Thanksgiving, protecting our nation while we get to celebrate with our loved ones. They need your support.
I hope you'll sign the Thanksgiving card for our service members stationed around the world right now.
Will you help us reach our 50,000-signature goal and add your name to our Thanksgiving card today? Speaking from experience, it will mean so much to the men and women far from their families this Thanksgiving.
By signing, you're telling the brave men and women of our armed forces that their service and sacrifices will never be taken for granted.
Please show your patriotic support for our military and sign the card today.
On behalf of our heroes,
Barry Morris
Marine Corps Veteran
Manager, USO
